Then again, these guys are the real role models for inners city youth, not the pharmacists they speak of. So I have to bite my cynicism and commend them for doing something positive.
Would be great if this is the harbinger of more conscious, constructive rhymes coming back to hip-hop...

Great links in these comments. Reminds me of Holy Hip Hop.

Kinda silly but I have to admit, I support the idea of turning hip hop back into the positive, artistic expression that it once was instead of what we are spoon fed on a daily basis. People always blame rap and hip hop as the cause for child violence and ghetto glorification, but the problem really lies with WHO is controlling the medium.
Check out an interesting program put on by students at UCLA which is working towards a similar cause... the songs are written and sung/ rapped by students!

I fully agree that this is welcome message of positivity. I would just like to see the gravity-center of hip-hop itself shift to a similar message.. without patronizing or sounding forced or goofy. Let's see what '08 brings...

regardless of what they went through, they are giving a good message. to many inner city youth are turning to gangs and the like for shelter from the world, they need good role-models, and music is a great place to start.

Don't matter how they made their money, they can speak from experience.
