The domestic violence charges levelled against The Shins' keyboard player Marty Crandall have been dropped. The musician and his ex-girlfriend, former US reality TV star Elyse Sewell, were alleged to have been involved in a 'violent altercation' in a Sacramento hotel on the 4th January but the case has been promptly dropped following insufficient evidence.

Elyse Sewell has been blogging about the charges throughout the incident and on her LiveJournal commented:

"The D.A. has rejected the case against me. I am free. I wish the same outcome for Marty and have no intention of pursuing any further legal action. I would not wish entanglement in the widening gyre of the American legal system upon my worst enemy."

Incidentally, word of the day: gyre.

    • I'm glad that got dropped. I heart the Shins and I don't like to think that any of them could be aggressive. Here's a pod, Behind the Shins, that gives you a look into all their hijinks. It's shot by the band members themselves. Check it out!
