Beatboxing The Flute

RosieKuhn
With his trademark live FLUTEBOXING [beatboxing and playing the flute at the same time] Nathan 'Flutebox' Lee's explosive blend unites Hip Hop, Drum 'n' bass and Ragga beats with Indian classical, Jazz and Funk melodies.

NATHAN LEE is a true 21st Century musical pioneer, taking live acoustic performance to the next level and urban music into uncharted waters. His hi-octane, hyper-percussive show combines the raw energy and attitude of Hip Hop and Jazz beats with the intricacies and musicianship of classical Indian music.

He has recently collaborated live and in the studio with NITIN SAWHNEY, THE PRODIGY, KILLA KELA, ASIAN DUB FOUNDATION, FOREIGN BEGGARS, MATTAFIX, ED RUSH & OPTICAL, and RICKY RANKING (Roots Manuva).

He is also a monthly guest performer on NIHAL'S BREAKFAST SHOW ON BBC RADIO 1 and has recently been named as an EMERGING ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE at Londons ROYAL FESTIVAL HALL.

After leaving school and working as a labourer for five years Nathan Lee put down his shovel and picked up a flute...not your average path to musical success but then again Nathan Lee is not your average musician. Half Indian and half Scottish, this former pirate radio Jungle MC has a musical education in Hip Hop, Jazz and Tchaikovsky, complemented in recent years by a love of Eastern music inspired by frequent visits to perform in India.

In his spellbinding full live show he is joined by an astounding array of talented musicians from all parts of the globe who take you on a magic carpet ride through the dusty streets of Asia and Central America via New York block parties and the grimy clubs of London clubland.... ...NIKI MUKHI (flamenco guitar), WANDAN (human beatbox), HANIF KHAN (tabla), PAUL DE BASS (Double bass) and rapper SKREIN (from the UK's leading Hip Hop crew - Foreign Beggars)

Individually or with his band Nathan 'Flutebox' Lee is leaving UK audiences literally drop-jawed and gagging for more. This is live music equally at home in a sweaty London club or the Royal Festival Hall.

Jump up or stroke your chin - the choice is yours !

    • Nathan's beatboxing gives me the chills. He is so talented. Thank-you for sharing this on Current.
The only thing is that his name was never mentioned on the pod. The host introducing him, introduced him as "the guy who beatboxes"..
My husband and I rewound the podcast a couple times to see if we could find out who it was. The only name that kept popping up was the director of the pod.
This is a shame....His name should be all over the podcast!
However, upon going to the site to complain, we did find his name in the paragraph above.

    • I wanted to do a video response to this, but it wouldn't let me! This is a very well-done pod overall. Production is immaculate. I love the subject and character, especially when he's talking about how construction workers don't get paid anything while he is getting a bunch of money for something that's not even physical labor. He's obviously a very smart guy and extremely talented. Fluteboxing, who knew? Very well done.

    • I like it, I love beatboxin, never fails to impress.

My favorite line was when he said

      "For me....as a person..."

      You couldn't write that stuff...

    • Cool video. I've seen a few video's of people beat boxing/ flute playing on the net but I like the way you've combined it all with some general info and live performance mayhem.

      Looks cool!

      Cheers

    • Good pod about a new music genre. It would be great if the pod could show another people's reaction to Nathan's music (not just an anonymous crowd in the background). Also, his biography states that he had to overcome adversity to pursue his passion so it would have been nice to visually see some of his obstacles. In that aspect, the pod lacks conflict.
The pod has great movements though. It would be nice to see Nathan play at different places (instead of returning to the same scene where he plays his flute). The music sounds great and I would definitely check out beat box lfute.

    • beatboxing usually doesn't impress me, but I really enjoyed how he added the flute into it, it sounded really really cool. It really gives him more room to expand on beatboxing, taking it to a new level.
