Girls Rock Camp

estherbell
Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls is a one-week summer day camp. Campers learn how to play musical instruments, write songs, perform their own music, do workshops, make band t-shirts, buttons, and costumes, and generally rock out.

Led by a team of all female instructors & band coaches, girls in the program learn how to play musical instruments, write songs, make their own band merchandise, discover other women in rock & finesse their on-stage jump kicks.

    • I really like this pod. The editing is great and fast-paced music and editing really makes it seem like an exciting place and opportunity. I love the angel of "girl power" and the feminist aspect of it. It really adds another layer to an already awesome pod.

    • What a cool opportunity! I like the way you told the story through some great interviews, but what made the pod for me was the editing techniques. Fast-paced, with lots of great shots of the girls rocking out and taking part in the workshops, it all captured the vibe of this camp. The music helped keep the story moving along as well. Way to personalize it by focusing on Megan's training, but it might have been more interesting to spend a little more time focusing on her experience over the week and how her final performance went.

    • I heard the most amazing band who formed during a Girls' Rock Camp weekend in Portland, US - The Ready, whose song, For All You Know, completely belied their average age of 14. I think you can find a video of their performance along with the Shins, the Gossip, and the Thermals, on the DVD Burn to Shine 03, Portland, OR. Do hope they go on to pursue musical careers!
