Universal Music promotes Ashanti's new music... and murder in a viral marketing campaign they call a "Gotcha Gram". Bad idea? Or viral gold?

    • wow!! way over the limit on this one.

and don't underestimate how deeply an image like this can impact an immature mind. unfortunately, so many kids (and adults) are trying to live out these scripts because the impression is so strong in their mind when they're faced with a similar situation.

the unfortunate truth is that a video like this is indicative of the lack of talent ashanti possesses so her marketing team tries to create/rely on gimmicks. this one definitely backfired. edgy doesn't make it ok

    • People are way toooo sensitive. Its a freaking video. No one said anything about Kanye being beat to death with a shovel in his Flashing Lights video. What about the rock stars promoting a lifestyle full of sex and drugs?? Are we really looking at the big picture here?? And if you actually pay attention to the video, she didnt kill the man, she thought about it........why do you think she walked out at the end? What about television shows- CSI, Law & Order.....lets protest things like this also because new episodes of killing people air every week on NBC. Just because one has lyrics behind the video does not make these shows no different from what Ashanti portrayed in her CREATIVE video. Get serious people. This video has been out for months and it gets such heat like this. What about television shows that has had multiple seasons? I think people need to get their facts straight before wanting to become a hero. I seriously think people need to get a life and stop trying to protest everything. The biggest protest start within. Makes changes within yourself and THEN try to change the world. GET A LIFE!!!

    • Who cares she just wants attention and this is the only way she seems to get it if everyone just ignored her there would be nothing supporting her. Now people will want to watch the video, just a lame ploy.

    • It speaks volumes about the quality of Ashanti's music that both the artist and her armada of product pushers need to resort to these uninspired graphic clichés to sell her formulaic brand of r&b. When your music is forgettable, you opt for the crude stunts. Disappointing, but definitely not surprising.

    • Ashanti said the grams were a better alternative to actual violence. She once called the grams "an incredible online viral tool." She's since changed her tune.
