Ursula 1000: Eclectic DJ

BIANCADINO
Alex Gimeno, aka Ursula 1000, is truly inspirational. He's had much success releasing albums on ESL, the same label as Thievery Corporation. He is a super talented producer and his musical style is so fun and eclectic, as well as different from one album to another. Alex was super open about everything I asked, and was sweet enough to have me over his hip Brooklyn apt to chat about DJing, producing, and the misconceptions of dance music.

    • ahh its interesting, because I do believe this channel isn't called, CURRENT POLITICS. if it is, im all for the political banter over and over, but alas, its all things current, and music is a part of our daily lives, and I for one am not for mixing the two, but I am few and far between, a lot of musicians are using their fame to help the community and giveback to what helped them succeed. Check out the next interview Bianca Dino did with FreQ Nasty and see how he gives back to the community and makes people aware of the political issues that are at hand.

    • hmm interesting. I used to be like you guys (above).
Electronic music was cheating to me because these people weren't actually playing the instruments that went with the sounds they (DJs) were making.

But at some point my mind opened up. A good DJ can be just as creative and capable of producing tunes that make you feel just as good as an acoustic set done in real time. Someday maybe you'll discover a DJ whose style you feel, and then you'll know what I mean.

P.S. Why does good music ALWAYS HAVE TIES TO BROOKLYN !?!?

well at first i tried to be nice
but after watching your pitiful attempt at music
      you suck
i wasted 2 minutes of my life listening to that horribly recorded mess that you had the nerve to put on the internet for all the world to see your ineptness..
you should invest in a computer DAW so you could clean up your uneven vocals...try melodynde...and get someone who really knows how to play guitar because what you did made les paul cry in his sleep

      in a nutshell
      you suck
      sucker

    • Here is a little song without any samples,I offer it only in the name of scientific study, so that after all that electronic music above, I pose the question, can you still be moved by a man singing and playing a traditional musical instrument ?This song is not featured on any tv shows.Yet.

the thing with electronic music and samples is that it is a new art form, please do not think that i am bashing what you do but it is not as exciting or imaginative as what the person featured in the pod is doing...to me at least ....

    • I am getting tired of these music advertisements. From now on I will be automatically Voting Down on all spam I see on Current.

That goes for movie reviews too. I already get enough movie reviews and trailers everywhere I go. Don't get me wrong, I like movies!

But keep that crap outta here. We have serious business to do until Bush is out and Obama is in. If I want celebrity gossip I'll go to Parade or People.

But I do thank Bianca for posting this one because she got my dander up and so as not to be a hypocrite I must now leave my computer and go out and register some voters.

See you on the streets people! It's happening!

Bent, this was not an advertisement, no one said anything bout buying anything, it was simply a showcase of a unique passionate individual.

This is a diverse community, with all types of topics, that's what makes it great, this is not a political forum, but I agree, we Obama in there man!

    • Having DJ'ed with Ursula on more than one occasion it is cool to see that he is still pushing the fun music that we all love...His music transcends genres unlike a lot of other DJs that get pigeonholed into one category
