Muslim leader threatens to kill Paul McCartney over Israel gig

An Islamic militant leader warned that former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney could be the target of suicide bombers unless he cancels his first concert in Israel, reported the British Sunday Express.

The celebrated rock star plans to arrive in Israel as part of a world tour, and give a single concert at Tel Aviv's Park Hayarkon on September 25.

Omar Bakri, an Islamic preacher, said McCartney's decision to perform as part of Israel's 60th anniversary celebrations made him the enemy of Muslims worldwide.

"If he values his life, Mr. McCartney must not come to Israel," Bakri was quoted as saying. "He will not be safe there. The sacrifice operatives will be waiting for him."

Bakri added, "Instead of supporting the people of Palestine in their suffering, McCartney is celebrating the atrocities of the occupiers," Bakri was quoted as saying. "The one who is under occupation is supposed to be getting the help."

McCartney was also been pressured by pro-Palestinian groups to cancel the show, but has resisted.

"I was approached by different groups and political bodies who asked me not to come here. I refused. I do what I think, and I have many friends who support Israel," McCartney said in an interview with Yedioth Ahronoth.
Pro-Palestinian groups have frequently called on international academics and prominent cultural figures to boycott Israel over its occupation of the West Bank and blockade of the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.

    • The further I get from religion the more I find myself trying to defend it, but stories like this are straws straining the back of the camel. Everyone thinks they know gods will, they know that god is with their side, its all a coping mechanism to help small minded people put a face to their problems and help them feel better about the evil they do.

    • Religion gives religion a bad name. No assistance needed. Anybody basing their life belief system on a fairytale, written by pin heads who still thought the world was flat, is incompetent of logical or meaningful thought.

Christians pay for their preachers new Cadilac and Muslims stone their children for getting raped. Somehow they think this will make the world a better place. Sadly, neither does one damn thing to make the world a better place. They only offer assistance in hopes of increasing membership and offerings. Did you know that the catholic church did not ban abortion until it needed to ramp up membership to fight all of the wars being fought in the name of God?

God does not exist in religion. If you find your god through the words of man, you will find a false god. If you aspire to control another human being through force or law and lose compassion in the name of God, you are nothing more than a minion of evil and therefore godless. If your god requires violence, hate, legislation or cash, you are an ignorant piece of pig excrement. And the world would truly be a better place without you.
Stuff that in your suicide vest and smoke it with your religious leader.

    • Paul McCartney will be guarded by armed secret agents during his gig in Israel this month.

The $2m security operation was ordered over fears of an attack by suicide bombers.

Muslim fanatics are angry that the Beatles legend, 66, agreed to the $8million Friendship First concert, to mark Israel's 60th anniversary.

An Israeli source said last night, "Anyone who tries anything will be meeting Allah sooner than they thought."

Exiled preacher Omar Bakri said Sir Paul was the "enemy of Muslims".

The Israeli government barred McCartney and his Beatles bandmates from the performing in the country in 1965, fearing they would corrupt young fans.

But they overturned the decision after Ron Prosor, Israel's ambassador to the U.K., visited the Beatles' hometown of Liverpool earlier this year and apologised for the "misunderstanding".

McCartney will play a concert in Tel Aviv on September 25.

"We can't wait to get out there and rock," Paul recently said. "I've heard so many great things about Tel Aviv and Israel, but hearing is one thing and experiencing it for yourself is another. We are planning to have a great time and a great evening."

    • Threats of violence are hardly going to have the effect that Omar Bakri is looking for. It may seem a little but playground but violence never solves anything.

After years and years of violence in Northern Ireland it was lengthy and determined diplomacy that helped to solve the issues.

The same needs to begin with West and the muslim world. Sure there will be extremism but the only way to combat them is to open a dialogue with everyone else. We should not be bowing to the 1% of people who see bombs and guns as the only way to solve an issue.

    • I just hope they will try touching Paul, just an -attempt-. If they even try, the world will go crazy. What people fail to know is that those in Power grew up with The Beatles.

The outrage would be so Big, that we can from there forget about extremist Islamics.

Hamas, you are about to sign your own death.

    • This is such an outrageous threat against an icon of world peace that I can't even imagine anything going wrong. This is so unnecessary & frightening to think that an extreme group of terrorists are making such accusations, may have a plan & are just waiting for the right opportunity to be heard. I can't believe how unsound religious interpretations of the Koran have led these extremists to become an invisible enemy where killing is rewarded with money for the family &, usually in the after life for the psycho psuicider, the virgins & all that BS. Basically the same propaganda we use to build a military operating on many different levels-including protecting & killing heads of state.

However, these religious zealots are completely out of their minds when they start taking out civilians in the name of insane religious propositions, made possible by military madmen hiding under the cloak & veil of Islamic beliefs. Hey guys-it’s the same God for everyone-chill the fuck out. The political leaders are who you want to seek out for any resolution but leave private citizens & Paul McCartney out of it. Where were you when Madonna toured?

    • I understand the difference between religious extremists and folks who follow their faith because it works for them and enriches their life but I wish I could understand why there's a need, in this day & age to destroy what is different or unfamiliar. I want to believe that religion was erected to better life and soul but where and how do religions go from faith, love and hope to death, destruction, and manipulation?
So many atrocities over religion …so sad and unnecessary.

    • Second verse, same as the first. Islam does not teach suicide as a form of dissent. It is completely forbidden to committ suicide and to take the lives of innocent people. People who commit suicide are defying the rules of Islam. Why don't people do some research on what Islam truely teaches before commenting?

    • Omar Bakri sounds off as to warn Sir Paul
not to murder the x beatle himself.
Anyway- the brutality of the world continues...

Maybe we are doomed under our self righteous religious cutures!

Good luck Sir Paul maybe you should gig on both sides of the wall? maybe its to late?

    • Perhaps instead of BOMBS maybe we should also be dropping psychologists on these these folks? Maybe what's needed to help stop terrorism a generation from now is psychological INTERVENTIONS on the adults raising the kids in the Middle East?

Seems to me many of these clerics who espouse violence might be simply be suffering from GENERATIONS of fighting and hence PTSD?

I mean isn't it a matter of personal psychology that ultimately creates a suicide bomber or a iPod owner?

All you have to do is see "THEY" are as human as we are...

    • Paul McCartney has done more to promote peace than anyone walking the planet. Anyone that would threaten him has no idea what peace is.

    • It does appear to be a veiled threat by Omar Bakri, the title of this submission is inaccurate. Unfortunately, it is the Muslim extremists like these who give Muslims a bad name, much like the extremists of any religious sect.

    • I remember this guy on a documentary for Channel 4. The thing that stood out was that he had mentioned that the west is controlled by Zionists so we should not by western products like Coca-Cola. But he went into a Pound Shop and bought large plastic Coca-Cola bottles that are made for despositing your loose coins. He bought these to raise money for Hamas. That always stood out to me.

    • Im blown away that there are actual people this ignorant in our world today. How is it that these two religions, who at one time were family, are so hell bent on killing each other. They all need look at themselves and grow up. Its sad that a worldwide uniting force such as sir paul has to be judged for playing music.

    • Religious extremism is crazy. Case and point.

It's infuriating that the so-called leader of a principally peaceful religion would declare McCartney an enemy to all Muslim's and make such a poorly veiled threat.

Just another reason why we must as a species rid ourselves of the ignorance and superstition upon which all organized religions are based. We must free ourselves of this non-sense or be destroyed by it.

      well unimatrix0,
i can see what you mean but
you should use your word carefully
because people can take a statment like that and start killing people they think are ignorant

i think we have to learn to deal with each other
we need to understand that people will disagree and we need to tolerate it

    • the title is wrong
the leader guy wasn't threatening him

he was telling him there would be people trying to kill him

from those quotes i can say that the leader could have absolutely no (direct) connection to the attackers

    • the rants are just that, things of madmen
but in fairness to freedom of speach there is a point
I do think he should have organised 2 gigs - a win/win position for Macca
don't forget for his generation one of the mottos was "never forget"
so the promotion of peace for both sides would, in theory, mean less deaths on both sides no?

he shouldn't give in to terror threats though
