MOCEAN

"Mocean" is a site-specific sculptural sound environment. It consists of a large water tank and a forest of antique organ pipes. As people manipulate and play in the water, digital technology translates the ripple patterns into sounds played by the re-purposed organ pipes, establishing a relationship between water and sound.
The original inspiration for Mocean was to use digital technology to establish a new, satisfying sensory relationship between a natural element (water), and sound.
For the DUMBO Art Festival, we expand our research into heightened degrees of interaction between movement and sound by creating Mocean's largest manifestation yet.
We use a 12-foot diameter swimming pool and some new technologies, expanding the range of possible interactions and sculptural interventions. We are also collaborating with musicians for performance during the festival.

About OrganicInterfaces
"OrganicInterfaces" is a collective of artists, scientists, engineers, and musicians whose goal it is to explore the invisible dynamics of matter (including liquid flows, tides, wind, barometric pressure, sun movements, etc.) as an inspiration for fully immersive multimedia installations. Through digital technology we transform our daily surroundings into emotional, tactile, and meditative experiences that people can explore from a different point of view, establishing a new dialogue between physical phenomena and human perception.
The team for "Organic interfaces" has worked on a large number interactive public projects, large-scale installations and performances. The three met at NYU's Interactive Telecommunications Program. Their work collectively has been featured throughout Europe, Asia and North America including the Museum of Contemporary Art Villa Croce (Italy), New Interfaces for Musical Expression conference, the International Computer Music Conference, SIGGRAPH, the Spark Festival, the Lincoln Center Summer Festival, Chelsea Art Museum, 3rd Ward, University of British Colombia (Canada) the DUMBO Arts Festival , Svevo Castle Museo (Italy), the Kennedy Center, Rockefeller Center and the Carnival Center.
This new version of MOCEAN was made possible by a generous sponsor May Liu and the M Shanghai Bistro.
Thank you
Maia Marinelli, Liubo Borissov and Jared Lamenzo
