John Lennons birthday today, Peace Tower to be lit, a letter from Yoko on IMAGINE PEACE

WorldPeaceTV
On 9 Oct 2008, John Lennon's birthday, Yoko Ono asks the people of Iceland (and the world)
to join her and many others across the rest of the world in praying for peace
and stability.

At 8pm, (today in Iceland) as the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER is illuminated on the island of Viðey
she asks everyone to join together and let the power of light and prayer
become a collective expression of the desire for peace and harmony on our
planet.

Dear Friends,

Please join me not only in remembering John on October 9th but also in
spreading the message of peace. This is something that was so important to
John - the fact that we could all work together for the positive good of our
planet. He would have loved how we are all mobilizing ourselves in thought
and in action. It's time for action and the action is peace!

with love, yoko

If you want, you can also send a wish message to be included in todays ceremony. You can find out how on the site. or at this link: http://www.imaginepeace.com/wish.html

Wise decision. We lost an all around amazing Renaissance man whose larger than life legacy continues to grow. He’s still inspiring generations of people to know that there's a more fulfilling life waiting for anybody willing to believe in themselves & take any necessary steps in order to achieve your life’s dreams that might otherwise have been missed.

    • Its time for the puppet strings to be cut.

      The vale has been lifted.

We know the wizard is behind the curtain, yet we continue to pretend that the big talking head is real.

That our government murdering people isn't us murdering people.

We all have bloody hands. Our government is representative. It represents us. That means we're all murderers.

    • John, I miss you. We all do.

And when it comes to giving peace a chance. You really meant not just one chance. But a new chance, every day.

Even after your enemy hits you. You give peace a chance and turn the other cheek. And then again.

    • Every where we go... people are good. Maybe this is luck? I have been told in a small village in Africa... "We are lucky"... so, I guess I am an Optimist??
      These girls are from China...
John may have been a bit, hopeful? But what else is there? Yes... Give peace a chance!

    • You were dialed in & had a lot of answers to the same issues that plague us today before most people had a clue what was going on. Your efforts, music & memories are still anthems & the backdrop for many of our causes as your messages ring truer than ever today.

    • A wise man once said:
"He that would live in peace and at ease, must not speak all he knows nor judge all he sees."

Can you sit by and watch someone beat a small child? I for one cannot and would not sit idly by and let that happen. I would declare war on that said person. I WOULD judge what I saw.
Same goes for a small innocent country that is attacked by a brutal leader or other govt.

People are going to be evil to one another. You can sit with your mouth shut and not judge them and live in peace with them at the expense of the innocent.
That is called appeasement and an appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile - hoping it will eat him last.

My seldom seen father once told me: "Crap in one and wish in the other hand. Tell me which one will fills up first."
Its ok to wish and dream but those wont fill a thimble.

    • It surprises me to see how many people are pestimistists in regard to world peace. Personally I think that's part of the problem. If everybody believed that peace was intangible then we'd have wars left and right 24/7. On the contrary if everyone believed that peace was attainable and attempted to attain it, then I believe with time we'd achieve it.
      Search for the greater understanding.

    • Those who are opposed to this are bringing up a very interesting point, that we are born evil. If that is the case, wouldn't the best course of action be to protect the world against us?

      evil is strictly perception
people very rarely do things just to be the bad guy

people usually do it because it would benefit them in some way. from their point of view they are the good guys

so evil is an ego trick

A few years ago, I was taking a stride along the great wall of china and was taken with this little girl and her father. I asked if they would mind if I took their photograph and as I did the little girl put her hand up with her tiny fingers, saying - PEACE!
Here's another *tink* to John Lennon.

    • John and Yoko spoke their contribution to society from their bed. So what? No one contributes to the world in the same way. No one defines peace in the same way. But if one sits around judging others or accepts violence, than what are they doing for society - besides giving us something else to fight about?

    • IT CAN HAPPEN, PEOPLE.
enough with the cynical and pessimistic responses.
people have invented war, they can sure as hell bring about peace. global peace is absolutely attainable, without force or violence. mankind gets no benefit, no satisfaction, nothing good whatsoever from war or violence.
the problem is society and the way it has been geared to like violence via the brainwashing of the media. peace is here if you want it.
john was the most inspiring person to have ever lived.
      peace is possible.
      war is waste
      love life
      know peace
      and it will happen

    • I think that Bill Hicks said it best

"Hey - don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because, this is just a ride...” But we always kill those good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok. Jesus - murdered; Martin Luther King - murdered; Malcolm X - murdered; Gandhi - murdered; John Lennon - murdered; Reagan... wounded. But it doesn't matter because: It's just a ride. And we can change it anytime we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings and money. A choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love, instead, see all of us as one. Here's what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money that we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace. "

John Lennon was a great musician and human being
and I am happy that he was born. Happy Birthday
      John Lennon.

so sorry you feel that way. Maybe you know of a cure? Life can be much better for you if you rid yourself of hate and discontent. You can dislike, but hate is nasty and makes one miserable. You have the power to change that...peace

I agree with you...Hating a person is wrong.

With that said....I bet if he keeps talking like this, you will hate him soon enough.
When someone attacks your way of like, its easy to hate them. It will eat you up inside.

Here is a good example: I hate most of the stuff written on Current but I hate no one on this site. As hard as it is...I love everyone of you. Hate the game not the players.

    • The reason no one has ever done it is because it can't be done.

As long as people think that everyone can do whatever they want to be happy (without [lame] harming someone else it's ok---whatever the hell that means) peace won't exist.....because allowing Hugo and AJ from Iran or telling someone to jump off a building and not get into trouble or bailing out banks that screwed everything up to begin with or sex is less damaging than war do it with whomever....there's no way peace can exist with the idea that anything is ok as long as it makes you happy.

No one understands our mind well enough to know what it is that we need to obtain a good balance of happiness that will enable peace among the population. No because when they start thinking of happiness they start to become more selfish and less selfless and that is also a problem.

I love his song Imagine, though. Great song...one of my favorite songs.

Striving for peace is admirable. its' not stupid because by trying you have the ability to not only make yourself a better person but those you speak with better....and that's great, but the end product will not be world peace. The wild cards, the one percent that ruin everything for everyone else...will ruin it because the peace lovers will not do away with them and can't. Because killing or removing someone that's nothing like you only causes problems with everyone else...

      it's just impossible.

I agree with you JJ. At least there are a few smart ones in this liberal cesspool.

I would love to see world peace. It will not happen in this life and those are the facts. Anything man puts his hands to, ends in failure. Has there ever been peace on earth? NEVER! We are evil creatures from birth. We can always try to make our own environment peaceful by getting along with our neighbors and work your way from there BUT there will always be someone that will not like you.

    • J_Jammer:

so because hes saying, "give peace a chance" you hate the song?

do you not believe the people have the power?

do you not believe that the world would be better if people spread the word of peace?

of course peace is difficult with greed and corruption in the world, mostly on the side of the G.O.Propaganda being puppets of big corporation..

but to say you hate a song cause you think it will never happen is cowardly. . .

how is it hypocrisy? when did lennon say, war is the answer??

hypocrisy is saying you want the world to get along and spread democracy then talk about bomb bomb bomb iran and north korea should be whipped off the face of the globe.

get a clue .. its people like YOU there is no peace!

Reality begins with a dream. Something I told my father when he told me to get a 'simple life'. All my dreams have come true so far and we all can dream without the government, or anyone else interfering with those dreams. But they try to and the ones that hold that dream and believes it can one day become reality, will see that dream come true. It's our dream, and don't let anyone take it from you.
