The Rt Rev Nick Baines, Bishop of Croydon, has urged churches to use hits by bands such as U2 and the Beatles in their services. In his book, which is endorsed by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Baines argued that pop music can convery deep theological concepts.

"For many people the language of the Bible has become inaccessible and yet pop song writers can make a connection with people because their language is fresh," he said.

    • I'm sure if John and George were alive they would take these folks to task. Lennon, to the best of my knowledge, didn't believe in God and would have been insulted at this nonsense.

    • I rather like REM's Losing My Religion. Does that count?

      heheh, or Halleluja?

I wonder how much the musicians themselves would endorse some of these religious links with their songs. Ugh, I'd rather my favourite bands weren't sullied by religion (unless it was intended) - haven't they got enough Christian rock bands for that?

    • wow, way to use the big name of the Beatles to catch attention of viewers.

Like the bishop wrote in his book, pop music is one of the best ways to hook young people into religion now a days.
I hope it doesn't work though.
