John Peel gets his own train!

The legend that is John Peel is to be given one hell of a memorial, a whole train named after him in his native city of Liverpool.

Local transport bods, Merseytravel, have announced they will launch the 'John Peel' train from Liverpool's South Parkway station on Thursday afternoon.

I guess it beats having a park bench named after you..

      John Peel's love of music and family and social life was paraded in almost every one of his broadcasts. He really does not need to be officially commemorated, especially not in such a silly way as having a train named after him.

      He was the voice of Radio 4's most comforting programme; Home Truths. He lauded bands and performers other-wise over looked. How else could I have discovered Melt Banana?

      But having train named after him? He'd have ridiculed that. His self-effacement was genuine.
