Typical male(and female to a lesser extent) behavior who feel they must compete or 'go with the crowd'. You see it all the time. "man jumps into shallow end of pool" (case I had on my last day of nursing school)....celebrating getting married and getting his masters?! Epidemics of binge drinking, fast driving, drugs...you name it. He is just another statistic on a long list of "stupid human tricks". God bless his family

May be next July 4th, we can get a contingent together and protest loudly and offer a small bag of carrots and grapes to people and show placards of starving people with empty bowls of food or people begging for food!

So sad. I used to watch these things, but someone reminded me about hungry people everywhere and here we are eating for competition. It's sad.

Coney Island's Hot Dog Eating Contest is about as low brow as you can get. It attracts thousands of idiots and they have a count-down clock, counting down to the next one.

Really a testament to waaaay too much food, waaaay too much time and waaaay too few brains!!!

It is sad, and I feel for his family, to lose their son in such a way. It's a shame, but stuff like this will come up now and then, as it seems our constant desire to be 'the best' at anything.

Probably not the kind of cause anyone plans to lose their life for. I guess plans are made to be broken though...

what will it take to get contests like that banned? People all over the world are starving and can't eat so these kind of competitions can't continue!

I would consider this to be a great example of the phrase "Way to take one for the Team". I feel sympathy for his family and friends, and I am sure his Soul and efforts will never be forgotten.

Any contest with the word "binge" in it is probably not a good one.

Its sad and I am always surprised there are not more deaths from people eating fast to win prizes, or eating fast at In-n-Out Burgers to upload there video to youtube.

This is very sad, especially as the guy who died was so young, an eating contest though is such an absurd idea its a shame that it has taken someone's life.

Oh my gosh, this is so sad. Reminds me of when that woman died from drinking too much water trying to win a Wii.
