Rick Astley scoops 'Best Act Ever' at MTV awards

The good news is that internet meme sensation Rick Astley was crowned Best Act Ever, the bad news is that he didn't show up in person to collect the award.
It’s not that he didn’t win, he totally won - My sources reveal that he received about 95% of the votes for the Best Act Ever category and about 80% of the votes for the entire ceremony. My sources also revealed that MTV didn’t want to give him the award at the ceremony instead wanting to present it at some other time.
As Richard Godfrey, Senior Vice President, Music and Production & Executive Producer, MTV Europe Music Awards said:
“This surprise nomination truly demonstrates that the MTV Europe Music Awards is the most democratically selected Awards show there is”
Yeah, I don’t know how your version of democracy differs from mine Richard, but refusing to give someone an award they won at the show you’re representing is pretty far removed from what could be considered democratic.
So what was Rick’s response to not being allowed to collect his award at the ceremony?
I don’t know what the actual quote was, but I’m assuming it was something like “Tell them to go get stuffed”
… I probably would have used more colourful language.
So as far as I’m aware, neither Rick or any of his representatives will be going to pick up his award. I don’t know what this means, if they are going to give it to someone else or if the award presenter will do a fake “I’m going to accept this on his behalf”
Personally, I’ve got nothing but more respect for Rick now. MTV gave him up and let him down, and he said “That’s not my style” and told them to get fucked.
Kudos Rick, I salute you.
-----------------------------------------------
Apparently, 4chan and a handful of other sites are so pissed at helping to get this to happen they are now going to try and take down perezhilton and maybe MTV.com
(rumor).

Attn: dirtyemowords Rick Astley is a Brit who won the
# 1 hit song in Europe circa 1989 entitled Never gonna give you up. You should see the vid, it's excellent. And the dance music is loaded with African rythms so you know it has to be primo quality too. From the archives. - 3 years ago

Well, he *does* have an amazing voice with a rich timbre, similar to that of Spandau Ballet's Tony Hadley. And, yes, I admit to feebly attempting "Never Gonna Give You Up" at karaoke.
(Hmm, I wonder if the Robot Machine of News knows how to pronounce "timbre" and "karaoke" correctly!)

I watched around 10 minutes of the EMA's. OK OK The visuals were pretty cool with The Killers Performance but then some asshole presenter started talking shit to a brain dead audience for about 5 minutes.

The whole Rick-Rolling phenomena has caused more amusement then any of those other videos combined, so that in and of itself should win.
MTV is for people with low IQ's anyway.

The whole thing was an idea to Rick Roll the world. The diggers and Reddit types flooded the boards with requests to elect rick and have him perform "never gunna give you up" at the show, thus Rick Rolling the world.
A crazy idea that actually worked.
But MTV decided to say fuck you to the internet community and not play by the rules.
Not a surprise.
MTV sucks now anyway. When they are not destroying natural rainforest habitats to build lame-o reality TV sets they are showing the youth of today that they don't actually listen to what they want they're just pretending to.

I really hope Victoria Beckham and that dick Dane Bowers were watching. They both mocked Rick and said they had never heard of him, on some Reality Television Show.

Wonder how many people have been Rick Rolled and in how many different ways. The man is an Icon just for that reason alone. They should have had him there, announce an entirely different act of segment then have him pop out and start signing and RR the entire audience.

Now that Rick Astley's won the MTV award and gone all *mainstream*, could this be a worthy successor to the Rick Roll video?
It's nuts!
Hehe. Nuts.

Apparently, he got over 100 million votes. Compare that to the 130 million votes cast in the presidential election this week.

I love that he actually won it, it's truly made my day. I just think it'd would've been great if he'd turned up to collect it, or at least pretended to do a video response but instead rickrolled the whole crowd.
Still, if you wanna read more about the juicy facts, check the link:

It gives 4chan the chance to hijack the signal of the awards show broadcast and barrage them with Rick-Roll and Barack-Roll.
That would teach MTV a lesson in democracy and the price for acting against it.
