The soft-drink maker said in March that it would give a free soda to everyone in America if the album dropped in 2008. "Chinese Democracy," infamously delayed since recording began in 1994, goes on sale Sunday.
"We never thought this day would come," Tony Jacobs, Dr Pepper's vice president of marketing, said in a statement. "But now that it's here, all we can say is: The Dr Pepper's on us."
Beginning Sunday at 12:01 a.m., coupons for a free 20-ounce soda will be available for 24 hours on Dr Pepper's Web site. They'll be honored until Feb. 28.
Dr Pepper is owned by Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc.
well they would have to give something away for free to make people want to go out and get the new GnR album...

This just seems like a huge joke to me. A free Dr. Pepper for everyone in America? How the heck are they going to keep track of how many coupons get taken? How are they going to keep people from taking more than one?
And are there any limitations on who gets a free Dr. Pepper? Do they have to be legal residents? Can I print out a coupon for my dog? Do fetuses count?
Furthermore, Chinese Democracy is actually dropping? At this point, it looks like it's really going to happen, but it's still so hard to believe...

IronJack:
They probably use IP addresses (not more than one can be printed from each IP address I assume) so unless your fetus and dog each have their own computor...
All you're gonna get is one tooth-rotting tasty can of acid and genetically modified corn syrup... Bummer dude.

IronJack:
That makes sense, and I imagine that's what they're going to have to do, but surely there has to be some other sort of check. Otherwise, come Sunday, I might just be visiting every computer lab within walking distance.
Phosphoric acid and corn syrup be damned, it's in everything else I eat. Might as well enjoy it on someone else's dollar. Maybe I'll just make it a day of true hedonism by downloading Chinese Democracy as I down a dozen free sodas.
Speaking of which, Dr. Pepper officially refers to its beverage as soda, and not pop?

Ha...that's pretty cool. Dr. Pepper use to be my favorite, but I like Monsters now. I don't drink soda often.

same here, I think that if he took another 10 years to work on his album it would still suck. At least I get free soda though

Thank you Dr. Pepper and Axel Rose. More bands should make this wager with say, Toyota or Apple.
