Groove Armada 'encouraging sharing' with new EP

Back in early April of last year, when Groove Armada's record deal expired, they made a pretty big decision; to switch from releasing music on a 'normal' label, to putting their tracks out on a new label developed by Bacardi, and lo and behold, this month sees their first release.

Their new four-track album will be available to download for free via a cunning online plan. The first track of the EP will be released via Bacardi's new 'bliveshare.com' filesharing system. Users share the song with others through various widgets and social media links and in reward for sharing, gain the next track and so on. Groove Armada aren't neglecting that the songs will likely hit P2P sites instantly, but hope that incentives like concert tickets as well as user's feeling good about spreading their music, will keep them under wraps.

Tom of Groove Armada said that he thought the 'sharing thing is nice because I think it encourages people to interact with the music in a slightly deeper way than just nicking and downloading it...This pushes people into a bit of a crusade and opens up a bit of a dialogue with the fans."

I hope his optimism pays off.
