with all due respect I think you're confusing taste with talent.
taste is subjective, I don't like Counting Crows or the Backstreet Boys, yet someone discovered them. They signed on to a record label and recorded and toured and found lots of fans. They have talent.
Same with Janis Joplin and Amy Winehouse. Both can sing the blues from their anguished souls. If it's not your thing then, it's all good. - 4 years ago

Thirteen is awfully young to be signed to a record contract, but maybe Amy's goddaughter is gonna be a sensation...!
Is there ever a bad time to start a record label? I don't know what the cost-overhead is, but if you have a talented artist and you can sign them to your own label, then the overall economy doesn't really seem so relevant. Mo money, mo money, mo money!?!
