Anna Nicole Smith, the opera

The Royal Opera House will stage a new opera about the tragicomic life of glamour model Anna Nicole Smith. Opera might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about Smith's life, but her marriage to a rich man 63 years older than her, and the subsequent high-profile inheritance case and her unexpected death actually provide the perfect fare for a modern dramatic parable. It's being created by two celebrated names in opera too: Mark-Anthony Turnage, writer, and Richard Thomas who, as the co-creator of Jerry Springer the Opera, is no stranger to controversy.

    • she got assassinated.. was i the only one that thought this the second she died.. she kinda deserved it and it was probably one of the old man's kids who did it.. after all her life was made by that old man.. she pretty much shenaniganed her way to riches and fame (and shenaniganed out those kids out of portions of what would have otherwise been their share)

    • Well, I wouldn't guess her to be the latest person to have a opera after them....but she did have a big fanbase and everyone deserves what people do in honor of them..so let the show go on!

    • It feels a bit creepy. Though I doubt it is the first time an opera has been based on the life of someone how has died. I guess it is creepy because of the circumstances surrounding her death, celebrity obsession and it seems a little too soon.
