Douglas Asks: Best Encore Ever?

douglascaballero
Chris Martin deemed his performance the other night the "best encore ever". Coldplay, The Killers and Bono played the Killers' tune "All These Things That I've Done" at a post Brits Awards event. The crowd went nuts and the moment seems pretty epic, even on a crappy YouTube video.

But is it REALLY the best encore ever? What do YOU think is the "best encore ever"?

    • I think the best encore I've ever seen was the Supersuckers at the Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco. They don't actually do encores, rather they just continue to rock your ass after doing a fake encore. Here's a little taste.

All that said, I was moved by the end of U2's encore during the Joshua Tree tour. Leaving the stage 1 by 1 with only Larry Mullen on stage and the whole crowd singing "how long... sing this song" at him.

    • ok there have been tons of better encores, but here's one, off the top of my head, that i personally witnessed. pearl jam, santa barbara, 2003. for the first encore, chris cornell walks out, everyone freaks out. he does two solo songs followed by a full-on temple of the dog reunion with matt cameron, featuring a blistering twelve minute version of reach down. then for the second encore, john frusciante joins cornell & pearl jam with jack johnson, and they close with a series of ramones covers.
over at antiquiet, we voiced our opinion of the chris martin / killers / bono performance, with video:

    • @bishopobispo that's fair (and kind). plus i've found that the cellcam footage that FEELS most like being in the midst of a crazy awesome show usually SOUNDS the worst...

    • Amateur videos recorded on handheld devices may make a performance look a little tame. After watching the video I have to say it must have been one of those "you had to be there" moments.

    • Did you see @coldplay twittering about the concert? I'm not even Team Anyone But Coldplay but I found "we believe this is what's known as A Moment" a little overly. Apparently I'm still fond of something known as "humility."
