N.W.A. biopic, 'Straight Outta Compton,' in development

It seems that gangsta rap has turned a corner after New Line cinema have confirmed they're developing 'Straight Outta Compton,' which is 'an urban drama about N.W.A. (a.k.a. Niggaz With Attitude), the hip hop group that helped pioneer the gangsta rap movement in the '80s and early '90s.'

It's expected that the drama will follow the meteoric rise (and subsequent fall) of the legendary Compton rappers, Eazy-E, Dre, Ice Cube, MC Ren and Yella. The film has a pretty impressive collection of producers working on the film with Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and Tomica Wright (Eazy-E's widow) all looking for a director to front the drama.

Think this is gonna be any good, or another cheesy 8 Mile?

    • This is really one to watch. The research and writers
on this one is first class. I am really looking forward to it.
This is going to be very high end. I've been hearing about and reading about it on some very respectable sites. Easy E, a story that needed to be told and told right.

    • This is gonna be VERY good. It's going to be a BIG BIG winner as long as the cast is good and the director. It has all the makings of a giant MUST SEE. I've been following the story and it's been very careful and a long time in the detail making. So far, it was done first class. Watch this one closely.

    • I'll wait for the album "Straight Outta West Hampton" " a suburban drama about P.S.K.W.A., Private School Kids With Attitude, the hoppity-hip rap group that
helped pioneer the privileged, hedonistic rich young materialist music movement of the mid to late 21st century." -The New York Times Sunday Magazine, July 23, 2087.

    • So that is N.W.A and Notorious as 'rap films'

I guess it makes sense, it isn't as if you can make films about Country music, although I have to say if someone wants to make a movie about the life and times of the pop act Steps I will be forever grateful (or not).

    • I will definitely be keeping my eyes and ears open for more news on this one! It's safe to say that no matter what, it will be a "must see", at least in my book!

    • No way. I've gotta see the cast before I can make any predictions about whether or not this is going to be worth two hours of my time.
