    • I just saw this pod and is it me or are they trying to say that techno originated at UR in detroit in the late 80's? That would be totally inaccurate.

this is about the history of detroit techno. a specific distinctive sound w/n techno AND IT IS AWESOME.. when you know your music better you will know there is a specific imprint that DETROIT had on TECHNO! but I think we should all know where techno raving and it all started was the hacienda new order and the happy mondays.... detroit techno refers to a certain sound MADE BY very specific DJ'S IN DETROIT. WITHIN TECHNO there is detroit techno which is well known cause it's really BANGING FUNKY distinctively different SOUND but there is techno that came out of new york san francisco london paris anywhere kids were spinning records and dancing in wharehouses... kinda like how chicago house and san francisco house are two different distinctive sounds....more you listen more you hear it? every city the dj's the time period defines the sound that come S out of the underground... CONSTANT EVOLUTION... detroit did not start techno but they evolved a certain sound within techno and made it their own... if you really know electronic music you know when you hear detroit techno... jeff mills ritchie hawtin... take a listen and then listen to frankie knuckles who i think is from new york... then listen to some digweed or tall paul.... all techno all very distinct different sounds that have evolved as the artist evolved. but detroit birthplace and home of motown giving soul and gritty tough rough influences and it totally changes it.... who did techno first???? good question one would have to do some research and find out it kinda started in...... MANCHESTER, england at a place called the hacienda....new order... from the death of punk came techno... but there is some disagreement on the sublect. WANT TO KNOW your electronic music? read generation exctasy, watch 24 hour party people, and talk to some brits..
to give you a hip hop analogy the sound the came out of death row records was unique and one could tell the diff between say any song that came out of death row records and NYC's Bad Boy records... . puff sounds different than dr dre? all hip hop but IT IS DIFFERENT STYLES and sounds.... techno house garage breakbeats jungle drum and bass gabba hardcore trance speed garage industrial gothic progressive house electro ambient dub two step ..... the list goes on and is constantly being added to ... one cannot say the hate all that electronic music if they've only listened to gabba... there is a whole world of electronic music and there is a genre for every peron in the world even a someone who only likes metallica. free your mind. never and hate limit your world.
You can tell the difference between andy warhol and picasso but they are both modern art right?

    • This pod is dope dope dope!! I can't stop watching it. These guys are really hitting it on the head with the "truth behind music" - how techno music embodies and defines us. The interviews here are real, powerful and inspirational. They describe the whole reason why I got into the business of promoting electronic music... when you get it, you really get it.

"365 days ago, I never liked techno, I wasn't into it, I didn't understand why people enjoyed it so much, but I saw how energetic people were when they heard the music we were performing and they described how techno changed their lives. It was life changing for me."

Life after electronic dance music is glorious. Good work Current and UR!

    • Saw a UR show in Detroit during DEMF a few years ago. They killed it. I became a true believer then. Thanks for the great piece, TK! They well-deserve the recognition for their work. Revolutionary!

yeah man, you're showing your ignorance here. i'm guessing you were still in diapers when techno came out of detroit. this music has a history, you should get to knowing it. saying something like 'you didn't start anything' is the height of ignorance, because, as a matter of fact, they *DID*.

maybe you're confusing techno with electronic music, but the words techno and detroit are synonymous.

      do your homework youngster.
