2009 Coldplay-Off: Round 1 Game 8 (3) Coldplay vs (14) Creaky Boards

In the Bands that Ripped Off Coldplay Division, we’ve got 3rd seed Coldplay vs 14th seed Creaky Boards. Honestly, I like Creaky Boards, and they probably don’t deserve to be labeled as a band that ripped off Coldplay. In fact, they accused Coldplay ripping off their ironically title track “Songs I didn’t Write.” And yes, you heard me right, Coldplay is the number three seed in the Bands that Ripped Off Coldplay Division. Figure it out.

    • Hey, I have an original thought...maybe Coldplay sounds like other bands because all bands sound like other bands. All music influences other music, essentially nobody makes anything completely original because we're all affected by the actions of others. Besides the only part of this song that sounds similar to Viva La Vida is the beginning melody. That progression has been used many times and will continue to be used because it sounds good, not because no one can think originally. The bands that Coldplay "rip off" only complain because Coldplay takes something they couldn't do and does it better, by selling millions of records worldwide, rather than being some side note in a bracket built by haters.

      And while I'm here I'll vote for Coldplay, because everyone sounds like themselves. If they didn't then they would be someone else...

    • I'm not voting, because Coldplay is not an original sounding band. They ripped off early Radiohead and Travis, and to a lesser extent, the band James. THEY ARE NOT ORIGINAL.

      Besides, who names their kid APPLE?

    • Im voting for Coldplay because IMO all their songs sound alike. Which can be good sometimes but its just a bit too much for me to handle.

    • I feel like the Creaky Boards guy should make more of an effort to look less like Chris Martin, but still he gets my vote.

    • Okay I'll admit it, I do kinda like stupid "Viva la Vida", (it's the violins and cellos! dammit..)

      But, I'll go with Creaky Boards "Songs I Didn't Write" on this one... (I like it more)
