Top 29 Best Cities to Live in

2009 has been a rough year so far. Financial markets have tanked worldwide, those of us who still have jobs are waiting to lose them, the British Auto Show was cancelled, and Gisele got married. It's all enough to get one dreaming of a fresh start -- and what better way to get one than to start a new life in a new city? It's with this in mind that AskMen.com brings you our inaugural guide to greener pastures: The Top 29: Best Cities To Live In.

The AskMen.com editorial team chose this year's best cities by applying a statistical formula to eight lifestyle categories (you'll find them listed within each city's profile), then evaluating the results in conjunction with some of the less tangible characteristics that make cities great cities. Of course, the ongoing global recession influenced the selection and ranking of the Top 29; criteria such as cost of living and economic stability carried greater weight than they might have in different circumstances, securing places for some surprising inclusions. Their spots didn't come at the expense of some classic favorites, however: cities like New York City and Paris have experienced an economic beating, but they still offer enough in the way of women, culture and entertainment to offset this.

In short, the cities on the list are diverse, but they all have one thing in common: They're great cities for men to live in. Enjoy the Top 29!

    • Chicago has the Best transportation .The Best Food ....And right now the Best place to live is where there are lots of jobs ..because if you have a great job you can order food online ..lol...no matter where you live ..
All the factory jobs I had went to Mexico and then to China ...we always followed the places to see where they are and what they are doing ...interesting isnt it everything finally goes to China and that is why so many Mexicans are moving here ...
With no health care and more illegals bring in more and more disease ..like HEP viruses ...all kinds of new ones from Mexico and now Parasites ...The Brain Surgeons ,Arizonia saying they never seen anything like it before ...in peoples brains ...the size of Grub Worms ..
And all these Tent cities tell a TALL TAIL on these so called great pleace to live ..
Reagn years 1981 people were living in Tents on the EAST COAST ....White People who lost thier jobs ...living in Tents with their whole families ...I seen it on Vacation ...I thought WOW a bunch of people on Vacation in Tents ...then you Listen to why they are there ,when you ask, where are you from ??Pretty soon all of America will look the same ...your only lucky if you live near water where you can fish for you food ...to stay alive ..

    • Everybody has their personal favorites of course. Confining myself to North America for the moment, these are mine:

      Boston
      Seattle
      Victoria, British Columbia
      Tucson
      Santa Fe, New Mexico
      Toronto
      Minneapolis
      New York City
      Jackson, Wyoming
      Coeur D'Alene, Idaho
      Red Lodge, Montana
      Boise, Idaho
      Black Mountain, North Carolina
      Ithaca, New York
      Quebec City
      Montreal
      Vancouver, British Columbia
      San Francisco

Wonderful places, friendly people (OK, Boston and New York have a few grouches, but OMG the variety of things to do BOTH cities is, of course, INSANE), great memories...

I have to say, I'm a little surprised to see Black Mountain made the list! Then again, I think of it as mainly a tourist area, which tends to color my perception a bit.

    • 1. Chicago
      2. Barcelona
      3. San Francisco
      4. London

That is about as far as I went on the underlying AskMen site when I Googled it before I kind of lost interest. Chicago is OK, but I don't see how it could POSSIBLY even make the top TEN, let alone beat out the three cities right behind it on this list. Just one aspect of Chicago alone takes it out of the top 10: Winter.
