Music can live through the Internet, but the pubs do need the support. Everyone right now is just trying to save money so we don't have to do unnecessary spending

You could go to a bar and sneak in a pint of liquor and save money, but getting high away from home is a risky pain in the ass.

In Colorado, the legal driving BAC limit is .05!
Thats less than 2 beers. If someone was to get a DUI or DWAI the penalties are tremendous. Besides the incarceration, there are fines over $1000, lawyer fees, license suspension and potential job loss. It's just not worth it to go out to drink anymore. In America we have extremely poor mass transit (except in some select cities) so unless you can walk a few blocks to the local pub, you are SOL. - 3 years ago

0.5!!! Wow. That's pretty harsh. In Canada (well most of Canada as far as I know) the legal limit is 0.8. It's still doesn't give a lot of leeway, and the same problems you mentioned exist. I'm just lucky I live downtown and can walk to wherever I want to go, or take public transit.

i heard you can get mad dui's in canada with fairly little consequence though. I didn't know Colorado had a .05 limit. I was suppose to go to college in Boulder, but ironically enough picked up two dui's.

That depends on what province you're in. Most provinces like B.C. and Ontario are pretty strict about it, but when I lived in Alberta they were pretty lenient.

maybe it is because bars are too expensive and underage drinking sucks.

Maybe if they didn't suck, people would want to hear their music. And if they'd play live instead of trying to live off of CD royalties (Metallica, I'm looking at you), they'd make some money.

How can we go out and save our pubs when drinks are so expensive... I blame the government banning smoking and taxing alcohol beyond belief its no wonder people are staying home, pubs just aint fun anymore!

I quite like the smoking ban, it's good to be able to go out and not stink. However it seems some venues were using the smoke to disguise other gross smells.

I guess smelling of smoke is the least of my worries by the time I've vomited doner kebab down myself and had a fight with a lampost.

To be honest playing gigs in pubs through for rubbish promoters that pay nothing is why bands are opting to find different ways of playing live.
Pubs should also have a good jukebox as standard, the Mucky Pup in Islington's is free and has an awesome selection on there and it's always busy because you know you can have a few beers and not mind paying 3.50 a pint for and listen to some good tunes. If the pubs are soulless and not making an effort to appeal to the punters then they should shut.

It's very hard to find good pubs now. Something has to be done.

yeah, i think i'm probably not alone in my usual going out plan... 1. buy cheap booze from supermarket. 2. drink booze and listen to music at home 3. go out later than i used to and buy no (or maybe one or two) drinks out.
Save loads. It's especially too pricey in London.
shame that it'll probably be the small pubs with character that'll go under

Caught between a rock and hard place really. No one wants to see there local boozers close, but do the maths £3.50 per pint against £3.50 for 4 beers from a supermarket.

You're right Rich; there's nothing for it. Polish your drinking boots boys, we're off to save music...

I am getting sick and tired of hearing about how the music industry is suffering; what did the musicans enter the industry in the first place for ... to make music or to make money?

Well, a person does have to earn a living. That being said, the ridiculous amounts of money made by some musicians (and movie stars as well) is completely frivolous and absolutely unnecessary.

Woah, never mind the musician's suffering... that article says pubs are closing at a record rate of almost six a day.
There's only one thing for it. The nation needs to go to more pubs and buy more drinks when they're there. It's what Churchill would have wanted.
