Richie Hawtin one of the first techno DJs, has developed an app that updates the songs he's playing to his Twitter account. Using Traktor's metadata, statuses are updated every thirty seconds.

    • Sounds like a cool idea, would never work with most Drum and Bass sets though:

    • I can get live updates by Email,FaceBook,MySpace,Ilike,ECT...Idon't have an Iphone like all you rich kids do,so I can't get any of that fancy crap you seem to be so fond of! I'll look up this Richie dude & report back what I think of the guy,but if he's been around for any period of time I should know his name! After all I know lots of Musicians personally! I'll look him up though, could be I know his stuff, but never connected it with a name too! I some times do that!

    • Nuclear Lullaby I can't believe you've never heard of Richtie Hawtin! The guy is a techno legend. He used to go by his moniker "Plastikman" and he used to be bald. He's been around for ages he's literally an old school legend.

Aside from that Twitter is so lame I agree with you. If my congressperson is "twittering" that's officially lame in my view.

    • I have been in the electronic music scene a pretty good time & have never heard this dude's name before!!! Twitter is very lame!!! If you wish to share your music & your serious about music there are 1000's of much better ways to promote then on a 140 character status message!!! A lot of sites including FaceBook even have an unlimited music tool that musicians can use!!! PLEASE QUIT WITH THE TWITTER CRAP!!!

richie hawtin isn't doing it to promote himself. in fact he doesn't need any promotion at all. look him up on google or wikipedia.

he has time and time again influenced electronic music, as well as the related technologies with producing, playing and distributing it. whether you like twitter or not, if you're a fan of music in general, i would think you would appreciate the idea of being able to look up the real time playlist of ANY of your favorite artists.

    • Yeah what he is doing isn't djing if he is just letting tractor just auto-sync his stuff. It's more like producing on the fly.

I'm not a big fan of Hawtin either but I'd pay to hear him.

    • Hawtin usually lays just segments of tracks so that makes sense that the updates would be so frequent.

I have a lot of dj friends (used to dj myself) and I was chatting on facebook with a friend who was on his way to a gig and he was texting his updates. I told him it would be cool if there was an app that would do this for tracks.

    • I don't think it sends out a twitter unless theres a new track to be played :)

Seriously awesome. I would love to be on the dancefloor for one of his gigs and get realtime trainspots through my phone

    • Every 30 seconds, that could be seriously annoying...

I'm not a massive fan of Hawtin's work, but I am however extremely jealous of his setup...
