Disney Brats

This probably comes as no surprise to anyone but I hate the new spawn of Disney Brats that in the last three months have ejaculated all over the U.K.

I've been aware of the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyruses (I have no idea how to plural her surname) of the world for a while now as I watch a lot of American TV and because I'm a student and therefore have way too much free time. I was fine with them staying in America with the crazy Christians and parents who think if there child hears the word fuck they'll be corrupted for life...

    • The Sunday Times ran a really interesting article a couple of weeks ago about the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus phenomenon.

      The main reason why these "Disney Brats" are spreading around the world like wildfire is because of money (duh). The "tween" (8-12 year olds) pound in the UK alone was worth roughly £20 billion last year and the market is practically recession-proof. The article says global retail sales of Disney Consumer Products, which handles most of Miley’s merchandise, rose from $400m in 2007 to $2.7 billion in 2008. It's not going to keep growing unless there are some serious pushes into markets outside the US, hence the pond-hopping Disney Cyrui and Jonai.

      Unless you want to take candy from the tweens and deny them their Miley/Jonai fix, it looks like they're here to stay in the UK.

    • It helps if you think of Disney's new crop of little stage-parent victims as the future of reality TV and the Disney Channel as sort of a farm. We will need something to read in the the line at the grocery store checkout. My toddler will need sickeningly precocious, sexually overdeveloped media models to annoy the crap out of me with. Its win-win, really.

    • The correct terminology for the plural Cyrus is Cyrui- They live a cheesy lifestyle and are constantly happy.

    • "I have no idea how to plural her surname" - I think it might be Cyrusi ;-)

      It thought it was funny when she was over in the UK premiering her film with her dad & she shouted in public in front of the press "Oh Daddy did I forget to tell you that my album's just gone platinum in the UK" .

      Wonder if that was subtle way of saying - "yeah Dad I'm doing loads better over here than you did"?
