    • i would rather wear my own clothes drenched in my own blood than wear lennon's shirt that he died in that hasnt been worn since the 70s, theres something sick about the person that wins the auction

    • unfortunately weather or not it is art is not up to you, me, or anyone else but yoko ono.

no one but the artist can decide weather or not what they create is "art". Just like if a sculptor uses clay to form something, even if they just make a shit out of their medium, it is still a sculpture.

luckly we get to decide weather or not this is "good" art

and while i think people are getting too worked up about it (do to lennons past being much darker than people want to admit and that most people here never were alive to hear his message and more than likely dont fully live to uphold it) I will agree with anyone who says it is bad art, because its just not that creative.

but at that same rate, lets look at the facts here:
the cloths are NOT on display, they are on display inside a paper bag, from what it says no one will see the cloths, only know they are in a bag. symbolizing that they are blocked, thrownout, and done with. showing it is time to go on and live his message not his death, to say "lets spread peace" instead of "i wish he was here to help".

    • In my oppinion, this is not art, this is Disgusting. John Lennon was and is quite possibly the visionary the world continues to need. It's disgraceful that this would be considered art. There are other ways to honour Lennon... I've just gone red, I might cry

    • I love how so many seem to know the only magical golden path to respecting lennon, this is yokos way and not yours, so lay off it.

now is there a chance that this is for profitering? YES, but also know that Yoko is an avant-garde artist and some of her past stuff (well before being with lennon) was controversial and weird in nature.

also, why not TRULY remember lennon? how he fucked yoko behind his wifes back, then tryed to divorce his wife on accusations of HER cheating on him, even when no such even occured it was just his way of passing off his own shameful actions. lets remember his hideous treatment of his firstwife and his first son, lets remember those things. because history is making him look to much like a god.

    • We need to remind ourselves that there are very bad individuals in our society and to be alert in regards to it. In my heart and spirit I want a World of peace where humans can live in Love and prosperity. But out there the reality it is very different in many parts of the World. We still have a social system that creates and promotes crime. If we do not change this bad view of society reaching the poor and the mentally sick, these things will continue to escalate. It is time for the public and gov to go back to the drawing board.

    • I don't know if anyone but John and his closest of closests would know if he would do the same...and I'm 99% positive noone on this website was a very close friend of John Lennon...

but Yoko was, and it's her bloody bag so I guess it's her decision...

if I were her, I would leave that part out and put other things to remind people of John and his message...but I'm not Yoko Ono. (thank goodness)

    • Nothing artistic. If you bought a new york city t-shirt and some round sunglasses and splattered blood on them that might be a bit artistic. This is exploitive. Quite upsetting.

    • I knew this had Yoko Ono all over it. She's an artist. She can't get over the death so she'll grieve in public again, and again...
Losing someone you love will always cause grief, the pain will slowly become bearable but publicly airing it again is not neccessary.
Not the bloody bag of clothing. I know what it's like to be handed a bloody bag of your loved ones clothing, it's devestating but we don't need that violence exhibited again. How about a tribute to the man? We all know he died a bloody and violent death.

    • I admit this is a little disturbing, but at least the decision is made by his next of kin (Yoko Ono) and not some jerk who bought the clothes on ebay.

I can live with this, I think it's the sort of shocking message John would have appreciated, making people see how fragile life is, and how little material things we own are worth.
      Peace John, wherever you are.

I respectfully disagree. This was both HER husband and her HUSBAND. (I hope that made sense, it was the only way I could figure out how to emphasize my point)

Her emotional baggage trumps everybody else's. Given the length of time I suspect it's either an act of letting go or a way to keep from getting evicted. I doubt the man would begrudge her the money.

I agree with Jan. Yoko could have put together an awesome audio/visual tribute of the man and his music that would have blown the world away, in a good way.
Not the violence. Respect the man. He was drawn to her flamboyance but I think his 'bloody bag of clothes' are distasteful and private.

I can remember when Sgt. Peppers came out... Four of us got stoned and listened to it for the first time and we were all totally blown away... We were speechless...
When Lennon died something in me died too...
I am aghast that his bloody clothes are on display...

      "Instant karmas gonna get you
Gonna knock you right on the head
      You better get yourself together
Pretty soon youre gonna be dead
What in the world you thinking of

      Instant karmas gonna get you
Gonna knock you off your feet
      Better recognize your brothers
      Evryone you meet
Why in the world are we here
Surely not to live in pain and fear
Why on earth are you there
      When youre evrywhere
      Come and get your share

      Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
      Yeah we all shine on
Come on and on and on on on
Yeah yeah, alright, uh huh, ah

if that's the case, why not put the picture of rihanna's battered face in the gallery too.

a friend of mine was a rape victim, maybe her rape kit would go nicely with john's clothes.

i know it's meant to pay tribute to john, but all it does is glorify his violent end.

I disagree. The Kurt Cobain shoes... they aren't his actual shoes, with his actual blood on it. I personally wouldn't invest in Kurt shoes, no matter how saddened I am about that whole ordeal. Now, what would be cruel is if the rumours were true, and Courtney had been the murderer... then it would be mockery. Like if Nancy had lived but Sid still died... and she put the clothes he died in on display. It's just something I don't think should ever happen.

    • well it's obviously tripled the number of people who are going to go, so there's no question as to why it was done. If you asked the "artist" I'd bet on some spheel on "art becoming pornography" or some other such crud. I guess there's even "art" for Jerry Springer people.

[EDIT] oops turns out Yoko did it. I'm gonna retract in that case. She is the one person who could have a legitimate reason for doing this.

    • "Truth is stranger than fiction, in a world of lies".

Most people on this website are way too young to have had opportunity to witness the John Lennon experience, so they really don't even have the slightest idea as to what his mindset really was like and what he actually stood for.

Lennon spoke and sang about revolution and challenged the true revolutionary spirit in all of us, as did Bob Marley.Today. That spirit is dead. This new generation has chosen security over revolution. They are not willing to suffer. They've got this "America is always right, and I'm an American" mentality, so their comments on John Lennon are not based on who Lennon was, how he lived and what he stood for. Their comments are based in reality.

Having said that, The John Lennon that I remember and followed would have done the same thing.

"Look what they've done to my song".

By saying he would have done the same thing, are you saying he would have exhibited the bloody clothing of his murdered spouse?
I to was very much alive when Lennon was and I don't think he would have sensationalized it.
Besides, why are people so obsessed with the man, since he was just that. A man. And he recognized himself as just that.

The general public has this cruel assumption that Yoko Ono Lennon was always up to no good and could not be trusted, when the bittersweet truth was that, John Lennon chose her as his wife. The both of them always had to withstand these ugly ignorant assaults on their marriage and him choosing her as a mate while he was still a Beatle. She was accused of breaking up the world's greatest rock band, but the cold hard fact is that he loved and trusted her in spite of. John loved Yoko and Yoko loved John. They knew each other better than the world thought it knew the both of them..

Yoko came from a family of Japanese bankers. Her handling his investments made John the wealthiest Beatle of all at the time of his death.Having said that Yoko probably doesn't need the exposure or money.MLK, JFK and many other great human beings have all had clothes that were worn at the time of their deaths be donated to museums for public display. There's nothing wrong with this.

You idiots think that you all know what's better for John's legacy than what his widow Yoko Ono Lennon does.
Your complaining now, as it always been, is more about Yoko than it is about clothes being on display.

You all need to try practicing some acceptance.

      Let That Be.

Excellent point about the spirit of Lennon and Marley not being represented today. I think that we need people like them now. Perhaps everything that is going on right now will spring forth new Lennons and Marleys. Hopefully more people would be willing to understand their messages this time around.

He wouldn't be glorifying the attack, but using it to further his ideals of peace by showing audiences what violence can look like.
While Yoko Ono may have ulterior motives (money) for creating this exhibit, I still think it seeks to commemorate John Lennon's life and promote the very same things he stood for when he was alive.
