Wow, this is awful. 45 is way too young. It's upsetting that Jay never felt like he was an accredited part of the band. I know that group is Tweedy's brainchild, but Jay played an important role for a while, and Yankee Hotel is a fantastic album.

I can't believe Jay is gone. I understand where he and Jeff had some musical and artistic disagreements, but his lyrical and instrumental contributions to the band are undeniable.

So Tweedy has chimed in...
Here's what he says:
"We are all deeply saddened by this tragedy. We will miss Jay as we remember him -- as a truly unique and gifted human being and one who made welcome and significant contributions to the band's songs and evolution. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends in this very difficult time."

It's a shame. Gotta love Wilco, and Jay Bennett's presence is an undeniable force. especially on insta-classic Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. I wonder how news like that registers for Tweedy? Particularly given the volatility that defined the latter part of their relationship..
