Personally, I'm fine not knowing what Colin Meloy ate for breakfast today, or to read that Hot Chip has "nothing to say today." I love these bands, but there was something so magical when they seemed mysterious and far away from us civilians. Now they're lives seem as boring as my freshman year geology class. All of the spark is gone :(
I do like using Twitter for music news and getting interesting facts on what's going on in the world (you can follow current music on twitter! http://twitter.com/current_music).
Any similar thoughts/ opposing reactions?

i used to like fanzines, and when bands wrote their own fanzines, and proper postal mailing lists, and record covers and inserts, where you'd learn all kinds of interesting things from bands about what they like and just random things and as a kid/teenager you'd take that to heart and try and be like your idols by listening to the same records as them, watching the same films as them, etc. From that you could discover new and interesting music, films, books, etc that you might not have known before.
The band Bis (the scottish one from the 90s not the japanese one) were always good for this.
Even on a superficial level i remember Bis talking about crushes they had and food they liked. And i liked knowing this as a teenager.I think the difference is twitter is constant daily updates and people still feel the need to update when they do nothing and have nothing to say.
Bands should set up proper blogs and only post when they have something interesting to share.Twitter as a whole concept is crap in my opinion. Micro-blogs.... pah!

I'm totally with you. I find Twitter to be pretty invasive when it comes to tweets about nothing. If you have nothing to say, why say that? And with indie bands, part of their appeal for many is that they're not out there selling themselves on every corner. You've gotta be "in the know" to know and love them. But maybe now indie is becoming so mainstream that it's no big surprise that they're doing this.
