Arnaud Touanga, aka Real A, is a nineteen year old rapper who lives in Glasgow. Originally from the Congo in Africa, Arnaud was forced to leave his home as a young boy because of war and eventually ended up in Glasgow as an asylum seeker. He faced many obstacles, amongst them his brother was killed as a young soldier, and when he moved to Sighthill, Glasgow, he faced growing up as a youngster in a poor and alien community surrounded by drugs, violence and racism.
At school Arnaud found it difficult to fit in and to keep up with his school work, until one day, at the age of 12, it was discovered that he was dyslexic. Arnaud had found school difficult in Africa and it was only once he arrived in Scotland that it was noticed that he may have dyslexia. At around the same time Arnaud began rapping and soon found himself to be very popular amongst his school colleagues. Hip Hop offered him a way to communicate with other people and express his emotions in a creative and positive way.
Music has been a huge factor in Arnaud's life and along with support from friends and family and specialist education he has been able to excel in his passion and overcome many prejudices.
