I'm sure it'll be more than a zip file. They will attach some DRM in a vain attempt to protect it (until some kids figure out how to break the DRM). Broken by default.

Good. This is actually great news. Musicians who respect music and make something more than the dribble these idiots peddle will continue to make music people will listen to, at the same time extending their audience, encouraging more real music. On the other hand, the talentless hacks somehow making money like the majority of rappers will have a smaller audience and when they put out 15,000 remixes of their one "hit" song nobody will be able to hear it. Well done.

Way to go labels, keep wasting money trying to get people to buy a crippled format when they have more freedom and functionality with open formats. You are only encouraging people to steal! If you made open formats more accessible for sale people would buy just because it would be easier than stealing. You are only hurting the bottom line.

Well let them have it. Smart artists do well to avoid the RIAA, and will no doubt be releasing MP3s. When I want to listen to music, it's usually nothing the RIAA puts out, so they can have CMX. It's just going to get crappy music more removed from what I like.

When will the record labels learn. You can't stop piracy by coming up with a new file format for music. People will always find a work around.
