    • There is a group called The Velvelettes. They sang a song called NEEDLE IN A HAYSTACK. IMHO, much better than the SUPREMES. A great song. I post it in honor of Motown's birthday.
This video of course is not when they were younger. Grateful that someone taped it and put it up. Great song. Long live Motown. ANd, may she rise again.
The word is class and style and some great glitter. Talented too!

Happy Birthday. A true milestone that formed the pattern of so many other artists.

    • They had such a sweet, unique but soulfoul sound, and no one can pin point what their secret was-- Tight upbeat rhythms with a lot of orchestral influence perhaps?

    • I grew up in a very rural area and to be honest, didnt even know about Black people. There was 1 boy at school whos father was black, but it didnt mean anything to us. One night the Jackson 5 came on and my father ask me to turn the channel{no remotes back then} by the time I got to the tv my father said 'boy those boys can sing, leave this on well watch them for a while', and I fell in love with music and black people. I would sneak my fathers radio and longed for what I now know as Motown. Diana Ross was my idol and I tried so hard to sing like her, but they were all great. I used to dream of Jackie Jackson, My brothers and sister thought I was crazy, but I didnt care. On Sat. I watched Soul Train instead of Bandstand. My father approved, "because their poetry was pure" Motown introduced me to big world out there, the cultures outside my {white} world
and still today I always including Motown, in my music, my teenagers also heard and sang my Motown selections, and shown admiration for their beautiful poetry. Happy Anniversary, Motown,
