    • I thought Ms Dynamite already won one Mercury years ago!

Anyway, Bat for Lashes was my pick. The only truly amazing album in a very dull shortlist.

    • Here's a Spotify playlist I've made, featuring as many of the nominated albums I could get on there.

Lisa Hannigan isn't on Spotify and Led Bib's 'Sensible Shoe's isn't on there (but their album 'Sizewell Tea' can be found on there if anyone's interested).

    • She's not my first choice for a winner but I'm not surprised the Mercury panel has gone for her. Her sound is very contemporary and they love awarding the prize to unknowns once in a while to look all eclectic. She's no mimer though, based on this video.

Out of the list of nominees, Bat For Lashes' Two Suns was definitely my favourite album of 2009, with Friendly Fire's self-titled effort my second choice.

      Full list of nominees:

Florence and the Machine – Lungs

Kasabian – West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum

Bat for Lashes – Two Suns

      La Roux – La Roux

      Glasvegas – Glasvegas

      Speech Debelle – Speech Therapy

      Friendly Fires – Friendly Fires

      The Horrors – Primary Colours

      Lisa Hannigan – Sea Sew

      The Invisible – The Invisible

      Led Bib – Sensible Shoes

Sweet Billy Pilgrim – Twice Born Men
