Pela - "East Los Angeles" (Video)

Mike_Johnston
I'm sitting here this morning listening to music and plotting my future endeavors. Somewhere along the line I got to thinking that I ought to kinda specialize in writing about the music that I know best, which is NYC based rock. On the other hand there is a whole world of music out there that I end up listening to so I don't really want to pigeonhole myself. Still, NYC tends to produce some kickass music...

Whatever, this is a video by Pela. I have a couple of their CD's around and I have only ever seen them live one time at the Delancey. Thumbnail impression was a Springsteen influenced sound. My clearest memory of the night that I saw them was their lead singer hanging off the water pipes above the stage. Really energetic guy but the theatrics just didn't fit the music and it was kinda over the top.

On the other hand their music is good. Balance that...

This is one of those bands where you listen to their music and you can tell they have something going and you aren't sure what could be added to it to perfect their sound but you know it needs just a little bit of "something". I hate that feeling because that hint of something great exists and you can feel it but it just isn't quite manifesting itself in the material they are creating.
