Really Common? Hip-Hop as a whole is a dead and useless form of music, so is rock. Create something new, you stupid ass kids.

Rap/Hip-Hop has deteriorated from what it was. The music of today has no soul or rhythm. Why even bother listening to it when people in the Rap/Hip-Hop industry praise performers like Jada Kiss as a great artist?? When the only thing he talks about is his block, guns, money and the ho's he has. Sad!!!
I rather listen to some old skool rap, old skool freestyle and maybe some R&B but todays music sucks!!!!

Just harder to find good music but its definitely out there. Mos def, Foreign Exchange, Sound Providers, Qtip, Strange Fruit Project, Reflections Eternal, Common etc have all released some good music in the past couple of years. But yea no where near the number of good artists from the late 80's early 90's. Continue to support real hip hop!

your totally right, but plenty of quality artists are out there who know what real hip-hop is and put an effort into making their music stand out from the mainstream BULLSHIT.
common is one of the best out there who speaks the truth about the genre.

I understand what you guys are saying and I do support the old Hip-Hop and some of the new songs, but it's so water down that sometimes you have to wait a while just to hear something good.
Again, there are some good artists still out there and Audi mentioned some of them, but when are the wack artists going to stop??? like diddy, aka fluff daddy, jada kiss, the owner from the source, whatever his name is.. who came out with some song saying, nah nah nah, yeah, he needs to go!!!!!
Common is good, but his beats and lyrics don't go together.. and be honest! some songs do but most of them don't.
Now, let's not forget the jackass ZeldaMaster, who's in the basement right now listening to some PM Dawn and playing the Wii 24/7 is totally incorrect. Music in general has great music and artists, but to say that Hip-Hop as a whole is dead? nah... ur just ignorant.

Man please, Ok I'll take that back. Underground is good, But we all know(and I don't agree) the vitality of a genre is based on it's mainstream following. Hip-Hop is good when you know where to look, but as long as you have assholes touting "Drake" as hip-hop's new savior? WTF...? Jay-Z is still ok, but he's getting tired. In the case of Immortal and all of those guys, good and keep rolling. But seriously I don't see where cars, hoes, drug(selling), and bling rap is going anywhere. Common must have never heard of Boosie, Gucci, Plies, Soulja Boy, Drake(yes he's more of the same), Yo Gotti, T.I., Shorty Lo, and all the rest of those air waves polluting ass losers. Just as well a Nickleback, Theory of a dead man, and the Fray make shitty "rock" music, and outwardly a genre get's judged on that. Tell me how many teens, unless you're counting that minority of Alt lonely, at the losers table type kid, who's has a iPod with Nirvana following Nas as the next artist, and you'll never find Lil Wayne on his/her iPod...
Fact is that little shit head teens with always determine the face of mainstream, eff mainstream all together we have the net. I don't see Common's type of Hip-Hop becoming mainstream any time sooner when the people want to be fed slop on a mass base.
And I have a Wii,PS3, and 360 for your info, :)
And PMDawn sucked, Fear of the Black Hat stopped that train, lol.

Now we're talking ZeldaMaster! I agree with you in that sense, the music of today (most of it) is just not worth it!
And don't worry, i'm in the basement as we speak, playing madden on the PS3! so it's ok.. lol

Just surprising the main stream media has just now picked up on this, CNN of all places. Yea heads have known this for years. Sad though cause groups like De La Soul, Blackstar, Tribe, Pharcyde, collective groups like the Native tongues, and Soulquarians get so maligned in the 90's and early 00's because of the rise of gansta/bling/swagga rap. I understand hip hop has diversity but Im my family came from the ghetto, I grew up with violence in my neighborhood, I don't need to hear some clown rap about it, and then turn around a tell me how much money he's rolling with.
Talib dropped some sick verses talking bout this same mess-
"Okay you got money and we all can see it, great
Now rhyme about somethin' time don't appreciate"I know you gotta get that cheddar whatever
Aiyyo I heard you twice the first time money, get it together
You must be History, you repeatin yourself out of the pages
You keepin yourself depleatin your spiritual wealth

Props but hey Common, people been saying that for like 10 years! But they weren't played on the radio, they weren't signed by huge record labels. Real hip hop was never rims and bling and bullshit. Hip hop was about strength of community, shedding light on parts of the US ignored by politicians, and breaking down the distance between populations of different socio-economic barriers. Saying its played out now is like saying "Bush was a terrible President!" Some of us have known for years.
