Sneak Attack at Oakland Whole Foods

JonRaymond
I got this email from a contact:

Over the bridge in Oakland, there was a sneak demonstration at the local Whole Foods, complete with brass band and superb dancing. Art in Action!!! It's on film and veeeerrrrry entertaining! The police were scratching their heads over what to do.

In case you're not keeping up like some of us are, Whole Foods' CEO, John Mackey, recently penned an op-ed in the WSJ in which he opined that, because he is able to provide private health insurance benefits for his (mostly young and w/o pre-existing conditions, like arthritis or CAD or osteoporosis) workforce, he is opposed to health-care reform that would make health-care a "right" in America.

He even (surprisingly) went so far as to call it "ObamaCare," right in line with the nut-jobs who don't want our government to mess with their MediCare.

Just chalk Mackey up as yet another good citizen who strongly feels that since the system's working for him, there's no need to change it.

After watching the video, take a moment to email our two Senators.

    • Two points:

      1. John Mackey will never get another dollar from this Pippin.

      2. This video made me tear up (not joking in the slightest) with joy. I don't know who you people are, but I love all of you.

    • I quit shopping at Whole Foods after Macky the greedy parasitic swine decided that he should have health care but damn everyone else.
Local organic food stores and lots of great Health food stores have all the same products.
      F U whole foods.

    • That was great! I was at the Oakland whole foods twice this weekend. Too bad I missed that. I completely agree with the statement that "Just chalk Mackey up as yet another good citizen who strongly feels that since the system's working for him, there's no need to change it."

    • whole foods is a business. if you think it is a store for lovey dovey, granola crunching, yogurt slurping shoppers you are wrong. the customers at whole foods are educated about what they put in their body. they are under no illusion about this being a sweet hippie store. the employees are screwed again by a ceo who doesn't give a damn

    • I thought this was really cool despite not being a whole foods shopper. Too expensive for me plus farmer's markets & small businesses is where it's at anyways. But this was a very creative way to get a message out. Makes you think about how protesting can be so much more.

    • I write and call my rep and senator almost daily asking them to oppose Obama care "reform".
The wife and I shop at Whole Foods quite a bit. Have been shoping there since it was Fresh Fields. I like what Mr. Mackey said about socialized medicine.

    • Fantastic... however I shopped at whole foods when I was in the States because they had those delicious Terra Sweet-Potato Potato Chips.

    • Yeah, whatever. Whole Foods is too far away for me. I prefer a Whole Foods alternative- right in the Strip, next to the Cork Factory- (formerly Crown Cork & Seal- now a rather pricey apartment complex- but the location!)

    • That was an awesome peaceful demonstration void of hate. Something any side of the Issue can respect. I'm 100% for Universal Health Care. This type of thing makes me laugh and recognize that there is a lot out there we can all do to help bring about Change.
