Bobby Brown Claims Whitney Houston Married Him to Kill Lesbian Rumors

In his new tell-all book, Bobby Brown claims ex-wife Whitney Houston married him at least partially to quash rumors she was in a lesbian relationship. According to Brown, Houston was desperate to stop media speculation she was romantically involved with assistant Robyn Crawford.

    • Well said Onyx. Though I agree with Tuck that I think society in general would be more relaxed at such an announcement now than it would have been back then. But I don't think she would have lost the core of her fans, even back then. The drugs and the horrid marriage was the true career killer. While the rumors certainly were getting out of hand at the time, I tend to think Mr. Brown is trying to stir up trouble to sell his books. There is no reason to be dragging this stuff up now other than for profit - and possibly as a slap to his ex.

    • Although isn't overly shocking to hear that now, it would have raised more than a few eyebrows and some would have marginalized her. That said, with Mr. Brown's soiled track record, I have my doubts. He's just trying to create hype to sell his book because he needs the cash.
      What about a New Edition reunion?

    • If this is true, Houston really misjudged her audience reaction. I think more of her fans were turned off by her marriage to Brown than to any lez-rumors that were circulating.

      If she had gone the other way, she would have been hailed as a true trail-blazer, garnered another market share of fans, and might have been able to side step the drugs and all the madness that seems to have taken a serious toll on her voice.
