Expressing gratitude toward them on his blog, he stated, “First of all, I want to thank everybody for their consistent love and support over the past 6 years! I’m so happy to be back in the studio making music.”
Kanye continued, “I will bring you the best I have to offer with the same dedication that Kobe has on the court. It’s funny how so many rappers get worse as their careers stretch out but true poets get better.”
Revisiting artists throughout history that made an impact on him, West explained, “We will follow in the same footsteps Maya Angelou, Gill Scott Herron and Nina Simone. Their work improved with time. They documented what was happening in culture. That is our responsibility as the modern day artists and poets, to accurately represent what is happening now, so when the powers that be try to rewrite history you can always look at our works and find truth and sincerity in a world of processed information."

you all realize this is what he wants, right? he doesn't care if you think he's an asshole, he's gonna keep making gold records (hell, has he gone platinum? cause I don't know.). to him, truly no press is bad press.
remember two years ago, I think, when he lost every nomination at the VMA's, including one to the Black Eyed Peas? he said he'd "never go back to MTV." look what he did this year, he went back to the VMA's and started another ruckus!
he's not as much of an asshole as a jackass. Obama nailed it.

Yes Kanye is a tool. But is this really news. We always knew that he was a jackass and he will always be a jackass! Im just really tired of hearing about Taylor Swift and Kanye. What happened to her was "soo rude" but to tell you the truth I had never heard of her before the VMA incident. So as Kathy Griffin said Taylor Swift owes Kanye alot for her complete and total overexposure in 2009 that led to even more superstardum, which is something artist kill for.

Yes mr. west you are able to manipulate millions of sheeple. Good for YOU.
Great power is a responsibility to do great things. When you stop feeding your ego it will die and only then you go can teach your minions to be free of the media induced coma that enslaves them. Then you will be immortal.

J dilla, Madlib, Qtip, Ali Shaheed, Pete rock, Nicolay,Jam master jay, Dj shadow, DJ premier, 9th wonder, K salaam, Questluv, Hi-Tek.....etc. The list goes on. Hip hop has plenty of extrodinary producers who are master @ the art of sampling. AND THAT'S the original concept of HIP HOP. Bottom line if its POP there's a big chance that the music, and even the producing is dumbed down.
RIP J DILLA

Alright, alright, Kanye's a dick, we get it.
He's a conflicted and troubled artist that has great talent in the music industry. A lot of artists are conflicted and troubled and we still buy they're media because it's good.
Personally, I feel this article didn't have to be posted. Come backs in the entertainment industry are a dime a dozen.
I bet there are thousands of people buying music from Chris Brown despite what he did, which in my opinion is way worse than taking a mic from Taylor Swift."I've been known for running my mouth, I will not be accountable for what comes out..." -Kanye West
He knows.

Obama, Limbaugh, and now Kanye? Is there anyone who didn't vacation in Hawaii over the winter break?
Nonetheless, Kanye is indeed King Douche but the man is a revolutionary within his genre. I look forward to giving his next album a listen.

well, you clearly dont have any concept of what a sample is.
Most hip hop artists pay homage to other artists of influence by sampling their music. (ie; taking a tidbit of another song and adding it in as part of the loop)
It's not ripping them off its part of the music and it creates added emotional value to the lyrics.
I'm not hear to defend kanye or anything cause he is kind of a douche, but before you go ripping on people you should get your facts straight

No I understand what a sample is. I should have been more articulate, but my gripe is with people who use a song's main hook and just loop and talk over it rather than take the other bits and pieces and employ them polyphonically to create something COMPLETELY brand new. An example of someone good at this would be Daedulus, Radioinactive, or The Avalanches.
Artists like girl talk and kanye west are the perfect analogy of this generation: Too lazy, unoriginal, uninspired, and pathetic to come up with something unique. To me they (especially girl talk) sound like nothing more than a drunk guy with a quick thumb and an ipod.
Maybe it's just personal taste. I would like hip hop in its totality alooooot more if the music and not just the lyrics was original (and good). Having said that there are hip hop artists/producers i love. You're certainly allowed to draw from the music that inspires you everyone does this at the beginning, but at some point you have to grow up.

yeah, and at some point people have to stop being so old. don't say you understand samples and rip on girl talk. sampling in hip-hop and mashups are two different animals.
if you dont like something, its fine to express it, but dont try and justify it by exhibiting your lack of knowledge about it.

You do have a point about samples. Daedalus is amazing with them and does it WAY better than kanye, but just because he doesn't use them like him or others doesn't mean he's lazy. Do you know how hard it is to actually sample AND make it sound good? That is no easy task.

@tomindeed: If the point is to capitalize on the ignorance of the public than mission accomplished.
@jfill: You're getting 'new' and 'good' mixed up. Sometimes new is good and sometimes not. The premise for sampling and mash-ups is the same thing though. The only difference is a mash-up steals more in order to make less and may or may not have spoken word over it.
Imagine if I took the paintings Mona-Lisa and Starry Night cut them up, glued the pieces together on a canvas, colored all over it, and told everyone it was my own art. It is barely ONLY art in the broadest sense of the term possible. Sampling and Mash-ups are only real art in the same sense that doritos and twinkies are real food.
@titan50: I guess perspectives on laziness are subjective. Maybe lacking in imagination would of been a more appropriate phrase.
Someone busting their ass on a musical score that they made, Mozart scratching the notes off the staff hundreds of time to find the right arrangement, moving the harmonies around to change the mood, Louie Armstrong and Miles Davis overcoming intense adversity to become pioneers in America's 'classical' music, Brian Wilson cutting up pieces of analog tape and gluing them together to bring together the best parts of various takes, Zakir Hussain practicing for ten hours a day on his tabla are all things that I consider hard work. Having parents that bought you a mac book and knowing how to use a mouse isn't hard work. This is true even for the artists I like. To be honest I haven't tried sampling because recycling whats been done sparks no interest in me. I have done stuff on fruity loops/reason and although fun it isn't hard work. Also even if it is hard work it doesn't mean the outcome will be good. It takes a lot of thought to create a nuclear bomb, but i don't think the outcome of doing so is that positive. (that's a wild parallel to draw I know, but it doe get the point across)
I know you guys aren't going to agree with me. You all have something invested in the thing we're talking about. Just try to be unforgiving with honesty about it

Kayne West is clearly the biggest moron in music of the past decade! I'll be honest & say the beats in some of his songs are catchy, but that doesn't make up for how much of an asshole he is!
I know many people praise this moron! Sorry if I am insulting anyone, but I just don't see how any reasonable human could support this guy!

MoonLoon, talent is a relative term. if you and I compared who we'd think should have the top-selling records of the year, I'm sure we'd have a varied list.
for an example that talent doesn't always necessarily sell records, Kanye sells millions more than MF DOOM, for example.
so, I'm with you kind of, I wish the truly talented sold the most and got the most attention. but that's simply not the case.
