BlendTape: Scheme “The Manifesto (Remixes by Rashid Hadee)”

In a trend that I feel is bringing a new energy to hip hop fans and artists alike, Scheme (“yall know the name..” © Pharoahe Monch) decided to release the acapellas to his 2009 EP The Manifesto in order to see how producers from across the globe might re-arrange the signature sound that he has crafted while working with musical heavy-hitters such as The Molemen and the production duo The Sound Merchants (21 Grams + CB). And though a lot of beatmakers took up the challenge, Scheme and his people decided that the work of emcee/producer Rashid Hadee deserved it’s own spotlight by collecting his remixes in this The Manifesto (Remixes by Rashid Hadee) project. Hadee continues in the sample heavy and soulful vein of the original tracks, but adds a choppier feel that brings to mind the best SP12oo fueled productions that the “golden era” has to offer. I know..I know..that’s a really overused comparison, but it not applies here, Rashid Hadee manages to overshadow a lot of the lesser works that try to lay claim to “modern take on old school boom bap” title. Some of the highlights include “Extravagant Lifestyle“, “Chicano” and “Spotlight“, but the whole CD is a banger. Congrats to Rashid Hadee for the great work.
