Kanye West Banned From Haiti Telethon

Remember after Hurricane Katrina in 2005 when Kanye West said that then-President George W. Bush "doesn't care about black people"? Or, you know, the Taylor Swift VMA thing? Well, it's being reported that producers of the superhero Haiti telethon that George Clooney has spearheaded have banned Kanye from taking part in tomorrow's international, no-commercials fundraiser. Here's how they feel.
A source has said, "After what [Kanye] said on the Katrina telethon and the way he behaved at the MTV Video Music Awards, everyone agrees it's just best that he does not participate." How does the entertainment industry view controversial Kanye? The source said the following: "Kanye has to make everything about himself. He will do anything to steal the spotlight and, well, this night it's just not about him."

This is for the folks who believe that Kanye should speak his mind and its unfair to ban him from the telethon. There is always a time and place to speak your mind about a situation. Kanye actions have been selfish, egotistical and flat out rude. He deserves this ban. So you felt Beyonce's video was better than Taylor's, but do you really have to get on stage during the middle of her speech and steal her spotlight? Could he not have waited till after the show and present his opinion in another format? Is it really necessary to make a bone head statement on how G Bush doesn't care about black people in a time where we needed to unite and help the victims of Katrina. He shows no class and is completely ignorant to others. He needs a wake up call that can show him he isn't a god and can do as he pleases. Good for the producers of the telethon. This is about those victims that need help and somehow Kanye has the potential to make into a mess.

Finally!!! I've been waiting for this to happen for a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG time now! :) That whiny little bastard NEEDS to be banned from more stuff,like...Uhhhmmm...THE ENTIRE MUSIC INDUSTRY!!! When you complain about everything at the level he does banning him from stuff might just be what he needs to grow up !!! I am OVERLY glad Kanye will not be butchering other people's songs at this event ! This guy has ruined many events simply by being there! What he says & does though, you'd have to be a total jackass to have any ounce of respect for him!

This is the infamous performance at LiveAid in 1985 where Mick Jagger pulled Tina Turner's skirt off on Stage, during a performance. Tina had enough class to finish the song, but you'll see in the film clip at (4.42) where she finally runs off stage. She was furious. It was unexpected and unrehearsed. Mick had already taken his cloths off on stage, Tina leave's the stage, and returns when they help Mick back into his clothes, then when she returns, he rips he skirt off in front of the entire world. She had to go on TV repeatedly and explain to people that he did this without warning. She told Oprah, years later that she would have never gone on stage with anybody knowing that they were going to rip her clothes off. As bad as Ike was, she said that he never did that to her on stage. The story line says that she slapped Mick backstage, and all of the other great performers there made him apologize. I remember it like it was yesterday. Black people all over the U.S. were furious at Mick Jagger. I've always liked Mick Jagger, but I saw the double standard and I can still see it today. He wasn't forgiven by the masses because the masses didn't feel that he needed to be forgiven. That didn't see harm done, not just to Tina, but to all Black women. Tina went on to forgive him. Elton John, during rehearsal, tried to talk down to her and she cursed him out. He ended up bringing a bouquet of roses, apologizing to her. After all that she had been through with Ike, some people still thought they could treat her like a whore. She forgave them all. Why can't people try to do the same for Kanye West. I'm not apologizing for him. Who amongst has never had to ask for forgiveness ?
Jagger's behavior at LiveAid was far worse than Kanye's was a the American Music Awards.
BTW,I'm pretty good at doing my research. I can find article's online to validate my entire story.

He does get to speak his mind on national TV and he does it often. This kind of an event may not be the best place for Kanye's form of impromptu honesty. Roasts, award shows, interviews where he'd be expected to talk about himself, talk away. This is a different kind of event that requires a sensibility Kanye just doesn't seem to have. We can listen to him another time.

Good. I don't like Kanye West, and if he's been a jackass in previous events, why should he be given another opportunity to be a jackass at another one?
The idea of celebrities giving to charity sort of gets me a riled up - don't get me wrong, it's FANTASTIC that they're giving money to help out and stuff, but part of giving money to good causes should be that you shouldn't have to be praised for how much dough you part with in order to part with said dough in the first place. Just do it without craving or expecting that praise.
No one paid any attention to me when I gave money to charity, so why should it be any different for celebrities? Oh that's right - cause we live in their buttholes =)

Very well put, Dave- although I don't know about the word "forgive." Good point.
In any event, the fact that they could have told him to pre-record his message and thereby retain some portion of his drawing power definitely makes this seem punitive/political rather than @ the task at hand. Alternately, what's to stop Kanye and his supporters to create another option to garner support?...

i hope this is just a rumor. This man says what he feels, and he has never lied on Camera, i only WISH more Artists Spoke their minds and quit being fake servants of the oppressive and hypocritical machine that is the u.s. Media. if they really do ban him it will be because of his Race and nothing more. Courtney Love does crazy stuff all the time and madonna held big daddy cane's member... yet they both are still never banned from anything(i may be exaggerating just a tad) but still... who are they to censor any human being and deny him the opportunity of helping just because he's a confident black man that speaks his mind. if Frank Sinatra had said that stuff about bush, the world would adore him for such honesty, but well, you know how it is... Anybody should be able help. I can't stand Kanye, but Haitians need all the help that they can get. If a Telethon does not want to be represented by Kanye West, I hope that he tries to find a group that will accept his offer to help.
No one on that island that has been affect by this devastating earthquake would say no to Kanye West or anybody , for that matter who wants to help the. Every body and dollar counts.
Look at it like this. If you or a family member were drowning in the ocean, and Kanye West approach you on a boat offering you a life raft, and a chance to pull you out of the water, are you going to turn him and drown because you hate him ? You can lie and say no, but I know better.
The people organizing the telethon showed ignorance is there decision to turn him or any money away. How can you justify hating someone so much that you don't want even see him try to help someone else. Who are you helping by showing us just how narrow minded you can be.

I undeerstand your point, but still I don't like it. It carries a nasty ring. Our state and government correctional facilities will allow prisoners to come out during the day on roads , and the highways, and they used to make them come out during during major dangerous flooding along the Mississippi River, and tornado disasters, now they want to pick and choose who's help they'll accept. I can't stand Kanye West, and George Clooney is one of my favorite actors in Hollywood, but I've lost some respect for him on this one. Shame on him. When do people start trying to forgive Kanye by giving him a chance to reconcile with the public ? He hurt Taylor Smith deeply, and he made an ass out of himself AGAIN. He didn't steal anything, he shoot anybody, cheat on his dying wife, con anybody out of their homes or none of that. You guys are giving the TV power to influence your god given rights to make decisions for yourself as to who you should accept and who you should hate.
[ nobody is saying they don't want the help or resources kanye west could potentially provide ]
That's just what they're saying. That don't want him around at all, because they feel that he can't be trusted. They could handle that if in fact they really wanted to but, they just don't want Kanye West around. In the face of death, that's a real ugly message.
Kanye needs to find someone who accept his help.. He should call Wycliffe John.
John Edwards is down their and no one is complaining about that. Maybe John will take him on.This is wrong.

There you go with that crap that your mouth is full of. I'm not apologizing for Kanye West. If you took time and read my comments, you'll see that I don't even like him. I've never like Kanye West. The reason that you're talking about is race. That's what you're suggesting. That's what you always do. You can't help but try to turn everything and anything into a race issue. Your mind is still stuck in South Mississippi, where you were born.
If you check my posts, you'll see that I just did a piece on Barack Obama, who, the last time that I checked, was Black. I quoted statements from Bernice King where she said that she was extremely critical of him regarding some issue of poverty. I AGREED WITH HER.The problem lies in your narrow-mind. You don't think that Black people can be objective when it comes to being critical of other Black people. That's called prejudice (pre-judging). You're not a mind reader. You really need some help.
I'll say it again. If George Clooney doesn't want Kanye West on his team, Then Kanye should find another team to work with. The Haitian community certainly won't turn him away for sure.
Their hearts are not feel with hate.
BTW, JonRaymond, Lifestudent, Ari_liston and several others agree with me, but you insist on following me around. I'm pleased and happy to know that you've given me the power to rent space in your little mind for free. All that you do is think about be me.

I never mentioned race,"Keith" what are you going on about? And what does John Edwards, Mick Jagger, Elton John and Tina Turner have to do with Kanye West. Tina Turner was beaten like a dog and treated like a whore by one man, "Ike Turner". These unrelated musings puzzle me. As far as me tracking your posts; that is a ridiculous assertation. I read almost every post on Current and certainly have no desire or need to follow your comments. However, I do reserve to right to comment on the issues that attract my attention. MoonLoon, personally I don't believe that you want to debate anything. All of your comments always have a personal slant attached to them ,(I" do not agree with many of your comments as they seem prejudicial and in most cases off subject, thus I enjoy commenting to refute some of your wild ass theories".). That being said, I try my best to stay as far from you as I can, because I truly don't care what you think about anything. I don't like what you represent and you're entitled to be who you are. Personally, I don't think that you ever make sense, but I don't follow you around trying to tell you how to think or change your mind about anything, because I don't want to have ANYTHING AT ALL to do with you period.Because you refuse to stick to the issues and you never make sense, go and bother someone else please.
