No Such Thing as a Perfect Album

One thing that has always bothered me as an avid music listener is the notion of a perfect album. When I hear someone describe an album as perfect, I cringe. I don’t think this is pessimism and believe no music will ever be satisfying. I just think like how you could be shaking your head in disagreement at what you just read, someone could be shaking their head in disagreement with the album you described as perfect.

The word, “perfect,” is just too open-ended to be associated with music. What is perfect to one person is god-awful, distasteful, and downright crap to another. “Perfect” is just about as interpretive as Shutter Island.

For one person, “perfect” can be as simple as a two-for-one milkshake deal or as complex as a sunny day where you win the lotto and marry the girl of your dreams. The perfect scale extends so wide due to everyone having a different mindset on what exactly “perfect” is.
