The line-up 40th anniversary of the Glastonbury festival - arguably the most famous summer musical event in the world - has been a contentious issue for fans for a couple of years now. The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, a reformed Smiths and even Take That have all been touted as possible headliners. The speculation has ended, at last, with the release of this year's official line-up.

U2, Muse and Stevie Wonder will play Pyramid Stage headline slots on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights while Snoop Dogg, Dizzee Rascal, the Flaming Lips, Vampire Weekend and Pet Shop Boys are amongst the other bands due to perform.

The festival's founder, Michael Eavis, was said he was excited about this year's festival. "This is it! It is the most staggering lineup, to match the 40-year reputation of the festival," he said. "I have been trying to get U2 to play at the festival since 1982, and Muse have never headlined Saturday here, although they have played before."
