Most Slipknot members grew up in the Des Moines area. Paul Gray, known as #2, relocated with family from Los Angeles to Des Moines and joined Slipknot; he has played for the entire Slipknot career up to this point.
It is said that Paul had a darker side to his life, dealing with drugs and alcohol abuse, though it was announced on his MySpace page this year that he was expecting a child with his wife Brenna.
Amy Sciarretto, a publicist at the band’s record company, Roadrunner Records, confirmed Gray’s death but declined further comment. Slipknot’s self-titled debut in 1999 sold more than a million copies. Known for its grotesque masks, trashing sound and aggressive lyrics, the band won a Grammy in 2006 for best metal performance for the song “Before I Forget.”

This is VERY sad news!!!Seems like more & more celebs dieing all the time now!!! Paul was a great guy & great musician!!! My heart goes out to his family, friends & fans!!! He is a big influence in much of what I do in music & has clearly inspired many many musicians & not just musicians in metal!!! Paul was one of those guys that actually would gladly teach just about anyone what he knew!!! Slipknot might have been a nine member band most of the time, but the way those guys do things, it's always been a sort of "We're all in this together" approach! Though each guy had his own part in the band they very much connected as if they were one wild creature!!! They played off each other a ton!!! If one got sick it was as if they all were!!! They had a closeness to where that's just how they felt about stuff, Like every group, they fought & had problems & also sadly like many groups there were drug problems in the group!!! Paul was trying very hard to get sober, but he,like so many celebs these days, fell victim to hi troubles!!! Slipknot's members might do more stuff, but I doubt they will ever play as Slipknot again!!!
