Once on This Island is a one-act musical with book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty. It is based on the novel My Love, My Love by Rosa Guy. The musical is an imaginative retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid set in a Caribbean French Antilles island, home to two entirely different societies, the peasant poor and the aristocratic Grand Hommes.
