Find out if Eminem's Recovery is a must buy or a must avoid.

1. Cold Wind Blows- The intro worried me at first, but after listening to it again it became dope, and slightly eerie….in a good way. Love it now, and it sets up the track perfectly. Just Blaze comes with a banger of a beat and Eminem does not disappoint. It’s not my favorite song on the album, and its not as hard-hitting as some other Eminem CD openers such as White America and Kill you, but a solid track nonetheless, despite the horrible outro. (4/5)

2. Talkin' 2 Myself (Feat. Kobe)- Woah, when the snippet of this song first leaked I loved the hook but wondered how Eminem would rap over this beat. The cadence is not something he is used to, so I was shocked at how effortless Eminem sounded when I heard the full thing. I really appreciate the honesty slim shows here, even if I was a little disgusted that he said Lil Wayne and/or Kanye would have gotten him in a battle. The singing bridge into each verse is unnecessary, but it works, so I can’t complain there. The third verse steals the show and is one of the best on the album. “So I picked myself up off the ground, and fucking swam before I drowned
Hit my bottom so hard I bounced twice, advice this time around, It's different, them last 2 albums didn't count
Encore I was on drugs, Relapse I was flushing 'em out.” Perfect song. (5/5)

3. On Fire- Yes, this is the type of track that was missing on both Encore and Relapse. Eminem just spitting over a monster of a beat provided by Mr. Porter, and the punchlines are not corny as say the ones on Underground were on Relapse. “pull up in a van and hop out at a homeless man holdin a sign sayin
vietnam vet.. im out my fuckin mind man, kick over the can beat his ass and leave him 9 grand
so if i seem a little mean to you this aint savage you aint never seen the brew
you wanna get graphic we can go the scenic route....you couldnt make a belemic puke on a piece of fuckin corn and peanut poo.” And to make things better, there are no accents!!! The chorus is great, because of the hilarious adlibs. This song is basically Eminem asserting that no emcee is on his level when it comes to just straight rhyming. Marshall has his swag back. (4.5/5)

4. Won't Back Down(Feat. P!nk)- One of the songs I was really looking forward to, and I must say I was left disappointed. Em’s verses are tight, and Pink delivers on the hook, but I can’t get over the over the top beat. I don’t mind the hip hop/rock mash-ups, but this is a song I will probably skip when listening to Recovery in the future. (3/5)

5. W.T.P.- So I guess this is one of the more hated on songs from this album, and I just don’t get it. This is slim shady at his finest, taking a concept (club banger) and throwing his own little spin on it. The beat is pretty good, tho not great, but Eminem shreds each verse. While the hook is catchy, the way he explains his vehicle in the first verse is classic. “Pull up to the club in a Pinto likes it's a Porsche, Garbage bag on one of the windows
Spray-painted doors with the flames on 'em, Michigan plates and my name's on 'em.” Reminds me of ‘Cum on Everybody’ off the SSLP. (4/5)

6. Going Through Changes- Immediately became my favorite song on the album, and in my opinion this is one of Eminem’s top 10 songs ever. While everyone loves the slim shady, rapid fire lyricisim from Marshall, it is his introspective and emotional tracks that really separate him from other artists. The Ozzy sample is used to absolute perfection. The 4th verse really hits home (yes, you get FOUR verses), and is something I’m sure a lot of people can relate to.

“Hailie this one is for you, Whitney and Alaina too,
I still love your mother, that'll never change,
Think about her every day, we just could never get it together.
Hey, wish there was a better way, for me to say it,
But I swear on everything, I'd do anything for her on anyday.
There are just too many things, to explain, when it rains,
Guess it pours, yes it does, wish there wasn't any pain.
But I can't pretend there ain't, I ain't placin' any blame,
I ain't pointin' fingers, heaven knows there never been a saint.
I know it just feels like we just pissed away our history,
But just today, I looked at your picture, almost hate to say,
I miss you self consciously, wish it didn't end this way.
But I just had to get away, don't know why,
I don't know what else to say, I guess I'm..”

Great stuff, Marshall. (5/5)

7. Not Afraid- It’s always tough to rate first singles, because they usually become overplayed and after-thoughts when compared to the rest of an LP. There are some horrendous punchlines here, and Eminem’s singing bridge before the third verse is corny as fuck, but overall this song works. It’s not as legendary as Lose Yourself (Despite my opinion that Eminem was trying to create a Lose Yourself part two) but it’s certainly a good song. (4/5)

8. Seduction- Here is where I believe the album really picks up. Let me just state briefly that this beat is phenomenal. Boi-1nda blessed the shit out of Eminem with that tremendous sample at the beginning, and of course Marshall doesn’t disappoint. It’s already being debated who Slim is addressing in this song, but whoever or whatever it is doesn’t matter. There may even be a shot at Jay-Z in the second verse (AUH!). I don’t care either way. This song is perfect. (5/5)
