Tabloid Prodigy recently chatted up quiff’d wonders Jedward on their debut album Planet Jedward, foray into fashion and eye to take on the U.S. of A. We caught up with the twins over the phone, with only a few minutes to spare in their busy schedule, as they were getting ready for an album signing–and with TV cameras for their new reality show following them along the way.
Why an album of all covers?
JOHN: It’s a summer album, and because we didn’t have time to write our own and all that.
What song do your fans respond to the best at a Jedward concert?
JOHN: They responded to Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby) because it’s the first single and everyone does the rap.
How much of Beyonce’s Single Ladies dance did you have to learn for the All the Small Things music video?
JOHN: Basically we went on YouTube and learned the dance, then a choreographer helped us.
You’re not a household name in the U.S. yet. Any plans to conquer America?
JOHN: We have 12,000 American followers. We need to go to America. We met loads of people like Miley and Nick Jonas. I feel like we can have our own Disney TV show like Zack and Cody. I’d like to go on Mickey Mouse Club.
What’s the weirdest or worst rumor you’ve heard about you?
EDWARD: We split up. How can we split? We’re twins, it’s kind of hard. And things about our mom and dad splitting.
It was reported that you are planning an underwear range. Is there any truth to that?
EDWARD: I feel like right now we’re not in control of everything. We want to have everything like high top runners. We want to be moguls like the Olsens. A 12-piece collection on the catwalk and have a big range, we don’t just want to be celebrities, we’ve had hopes of doing everything. I feel like me and John we’re driven. When we were younger, John would use the shampoo and I’d use the hairbrush to sing. We’d fight for the brush because it’s more like a microphone. I feel like everything we got we worked really hard for. Music isn’t like it used to be. Nsync used to have great routines like on MTV back in the ‘90s. Britney is the only one who’s lasted. When we meet other people in person, there’s nothing to them. But with me and John there’s loads. Someone didn’t just take us and turn us into something.
Are there any endorsements that you have turned down?
EDWARD: When we were with Sony then moved to Universal, there was a lot of confusion. I think Nike wanted to do something and the deal was in place, but they didn’t follow through because of the change in record label, but right now we’re focusing on good music because then everything else follows after it.
Who’s in your entourage?
EDWARD: We don’t always have a security guard to keep us safe. We don’t have a makeup or a hair person, we do everything ourselves. In recent times we have a cam crew for a brand new program on ITV. It’s out in August and it’s just to see what we’re doing for everybody to get know us better. It’s like the Kardashians. Everyone from T4 is in it too.
