    • Let's put this into some perspective. Korean Americans account for less than 1% of the American population. Asians in total account for something a bit less than 3% of the total.

All of these figures are higher in California and New York.

What explains the success of these four kids, none of whom frankly is particularly good looking? And why the close cooperation with bigger lights in the Hip Hop world, like Snoop Dog and Kanye West?

My guess is that this promotion of this Korean American boy band is a positive effort to increase sentimental linkages with Korea as part of a larger campaign to dilute Chinese influence within Asia.

Musically, not particularly interesting. Politically, quite fascinating.

    • Incredulous:

Of course, having Asian bands from America opens up the potential to penetrate the Chinese, Indian and Southeast Asian markets for music content, where the Korean Wave is already going strong. Asian, particularly Korean, content from America could also support the distribution of American products in the Asian emerging markets.

Whether it's organic or not, commercially this phenomenon makes a lot of sense.

And with that G6 stuff, these kids obviously don't have any conspicuous political tendencies that might sabotage their usefulness.
