The great Gil Scott-Heron has died suddenly, at 62. May he rest in peace, at last. Below, The Revolution, the title track from last year's exquisite, "I'm New Here," and more...at http://nonlinearresonance.com/currents/index.php?topic=88.msg368#msg368

    • He died of AIDS. If anyone can remember seeing the Last Poets in Harlem before they were known to the world. then you missed out. If anyone could have a chance talk with him, you missed out. But what he left as a legacy of introspection for the black community, priceless if you got it and understood that your current negro problem, is also a microcosm of what cultural imbalances that use subterfuge as an entitlement to exist.

    • Great man. Too bad he smoked cigarettes. Anyone who does
should simply stop & think about this fact long & hard: They
put 10 poisonous ingredients in cigarettes that you can't
legaly bury in a landfill. The fact that people over a certain
age can make the choice to bury them in themselves says
something pretty ugly about what we call civilization, and why
Cannabis is largely considered criminal though adulterated
tobacco isn't. Which is, that life is cheap. Because there are
too many people in the world. They want people to die asap.

Consider. The world population has held steady from 1-2
Billion souls since the 1800s. But with the invention of petro
chemical fertilizers, the population has jumped to nearly 7
Billion. 80 % of the entire world population of humans lives
at the margin of poverty, from hand to mouth, without any
kind of financial security to be had ever in their lives. We've
heard of Monsanto trying to sterilize the world's poorest
in 3rd world countries all around the globe, and even in
emerging countries like India, where they manipulate mass
suicides of organic farmers. The world is past peak oil
production, and the lives of those 5 Billion can't be sustained.
It would take 3 planets the size of Earth to sustain all of us.

Gil Scott Heron: The Revolution will not be televised, will
not be televised, will not be televised. The entire world is
seething with Revolution now, and has been for a long while.
Like the man once said: Apres moi, le deluge.

I gave up smoking in 1970. It was easy for me since I
smoked Cannabis. The next step is an inhaler for Cannabis.
The high is said to be somewhere between smoking it, and
eating it. In Switzerland, where I'll attain dual nationality from,
there's a lot of Cannabis, as there is in the U.K. of the
Netherlands. The difference is you can legaly smoke it
and even grow 3 plants, if you have a medical need in
Holland because it's well tolerated. Me, I like aroma therapy
better. Smoking scores the blood vessels & heart, and
ruins the lungs, stresses the immune system, destroys
vitamin C, and ages people prematurely, which has to mean
it can shorten your life even if you don't develop cancer
or other diseases associated with smoking cigarettes. It's
only because the sacred herb helps dilate the lungs that
keeps people from killing themselves no matter what they
smoke. They still wheeze for many years after they quit.

I bet if Gill had it to do all over again, like Yul Brenner
he'd tell people to save their own lives. I know perfectly
well that smoking cigarettes is as addictive as crack cocaine.
But you can still grow your own tobacco, and smoke the dried
flowers sparingly through a menthol filtered water pipe. If you've
ever had tea made of brewing spearmint & peppermint, then
you know how tasty & deliciousit is to drink it. Smoking through
it is great tasting too. Like the National Safety Council has
always told people: Drive carefuly. The life you save may be
your own. The lady I love smokes cigarettes. Without nagging,
and being annoying & oppressive, I know I can enable her
to gradualy make the transition to a more healhy way without
any dissonance. Love conquers all things. I know exactly how
to help her save her own life from being ravaged by the
diseases smoking causes. I bet Gil would agree it's smarter
to be safe than sorry. Life doesn't have to be tragic. If you
act wisely it won't be. God put that power of creation in all
of us. Its only a matter of will. For an Aries, that commodity
is never in short supply. As you can plainly tell, I was my own
Capt. Kirk/Star Trek style communicator long before flip phones
made it on the scene. Heh. Keep on dancin & a prancin. Keep on.
