And in the process of relaying the reality we face I know that sometimes hope can be lost. But we must not allow that to happen. We must not allow despair and hopelessness to take the place of our passion to make this world a better place.
There is no mistaking that we face a global crisis regarding our water resources, particularly in areas now being hardest hit by climate change. Glaciers globally continue to melt and recede much faster than scientific predictions which are affecting the water supplies of many people. We see acidifcation, pollution, dams, floods, overuse and population increases putting a tremendous strain on this most precious resource on every continent.
It is easy to think that we can do nothing about this. However, we can. I was trying to think of a theme for this year on this blog and I have. It is to Celebrate Water. To show its grace and beauty. To write of its life and soul saving power. To share its awe inspiring majesty... with a point of course. I wish to dedicate this blog in 2012 to Celebrating Water in order to illustrate just what we are throwing away by not taking water seriously.
So please come back from time to time and watch the videos, read the stories, see the good work being done to bring water to those who need it and be inspired to do all in your power to save this miracle of all life on Earth. An awakening is coming.
Love and water, the two things that bring us together as humans.
Let this be the year we become one in our consciousness with Mother Earth.
Thanks for your support here!

Firstly, I am very touched by the birthday wishes, thank you. I don't look upon age as a number but every year as a chance to learn more about the universe. We are never too old to learn and have new experiences regardless of what we may or may not believe about how we got here. Thank you also for the contributions on water. The whole point is to have people understand just how much we are connected to it. I think once most people see that connection they also see the urgency of this global crisis we face. I do try to have hope as well and wish we could collectively see the way to using water as an instrument of peace in the world although I am more than aware of the challenges we face regarding our treatment of it. This is the moral challenge of our time, but I know there are many good people in this world already working on this crisis. I hope to at least bring awareness to this and do my part to hold those who continue to pollute and exploit it at the expense of our survival accountable. Thanks again.

Nice post. But the second to last sentence will get mangled over the next decade as the planet continues to heat up and clean water becomes the next killing field. We already see the fights here between states with water and those that have little. Control of the Colorado river water is fierce. The Midwest is pumping water out of its aquifer faster than nature can refill it. That means that we will start to see sink hole popping up there in the next decade or so, subsuming farmland.
Water is life, more so than any other element other than air. Humans have done their best to fuck up both of them. But maybe with more people reading and writing blogs like this we can change our bleak future.

Water most certainly is already being used as a weapon of war and it is despicable. We surely have challenges especially regarding climate change and agricuture and water is the next frontier we see wars fought over as we are already seeing it in the Middle East, and even right here in the U.S. regarding the Colorado River and to an extent the Great Lakes. Darfur is also known as the first environmental war over water and the Blue Nile is still being used as a bargaining chip for this area of the world which has a very tenuous treaty. I honestly think it is only a matter of time before we unfortunately see all out conflict in this area over water resources.
The Israeli-Palestinian wars have been over water; Iraq is now seeing the same problems (primarily due to overbuilding of dams); China and India; Latin American countries like Peru fighitng privatization; austerity measures in Europe bringing about IMF takeover of resources and the list goes on... But again, to this point when faced with the option of all out war countries have tried to come together because they understand what effects others regarding water effects them too and I hope that remains the case on the whole.
I think we could definitely say that humanity will have reached its lowest point when we start all out killing over water. And as we know it all comes back to the usual culprits: greed, power and control and taking advantage of those who need it most. But the people have won these battles before (Bolivia is a great example of that) and if we join globally to fight this I have hope we can avert a great part of the catastrophe that awaits us if we are aware of what we are facing and be a part of the solution.

Our bodies are mostly made up of water--- our cells are 65-90% water by weight. All the chemical reactions in our bodies take place in the presence of water.
Life was sparked in some watery primordial soup, life first emerged and proliferated in the briny oceans. Ancient civilizations rose from deserts in the presence of nearby water.
We are drawn to water with an intuition, something deep inside that tells us we came from there. We need it beyond replenishing our bodies, we need it to recharge our very souls.
I hope we haven't irreparably damaged the water cycle.
BTW---Have a joyous Birthday and don't forget to drink at least 8 cups of H2o.

I really enjoyed doing it and tried to make it enjoyable for the children too. I think they learn much better when they enjoy the experience. I also worked with special ed students in math and reading. I was helping a boy my second year who really couldn't read and he was 12 years old. He had a very hard time sounding out words. I worked with him every day on phonetics and sounds and then carried it over to those letters until he could recognize them in words with the sounds. By the end of the school year he sat in front of me and read an entire short story on his own. When he finished it he started crying, and of course I did too because I was so proud of him and can't relay in words the feeling I got in knowing I had that kind of an effect on his life. That to me is what life is all about. I recommend doing that for anyone who truly wishes to help a child.
