In February, half-naked men in loinclothes and headbands gather in the cold water of a sacred pond to wrestle and sling mud at a shrine on the outskirts of Tokyo. The Dairokuten-no-Hadaka Matsuri is just one of many "naked" festivals in Japan. Hadaka means naked but in actuality the partipants wear a loincloth called a fundoshi. The mudslinging is to ensure good harvest for the year.
