...She was taken behind a curtain and managed to remove one bar-shaped piercing but had trouble with the second, a ring.
...She said she heard male TSA agents snickering as she took out the ring. She was scanned again and was allowed to board even though she still was wearing a belly button ring.'
TSA instructs boarding passengers to remove all rings, excess jewelry, and change from pockets. Was the treatment of this woman within the TSA's rights of inspection, or did they go too far?

Well, she should have took them off before going to the airport. That's probably hoping for too much intelligence in a person though... at any rate the TSA should apoligize and the incident with the male security looked into further. Sounds like she has grounds for a lawsuit as well especially with the belley button ring being left in...

Maybe they'll ask the guy with the metal plate in his head to remove it.
Or maybe force the woman using the wheelchair to discard of it for the rest of her trip.

It's getting just plain ridiculus. I know americans think that law suits are the answers to everything, but they deserve to get sued and more.

=D I thought you might see it that way after all stephenthomson hehe...
I seriously doubt this woman's "story" is compromised at all in any way by the fact of who the lawyer happens to be making the request. It's not exactly a lawsuit...not yet anyway. I think it may be frivolous if it was, but you never know. and I very seriously doubt they make a big deal of anyone having metal plates or screws in their bodies for obvious health reasons... I've never seen it anyway.
I think if "common sense" for now were truly to prevail, people would just take the miniscule amount of time necessary to plan ahead and as particularly applies to those sexy nipple rings Ladies, simply don't wear them when you already know you're going to be flying and perhaps asked to remove or "show off what you got baby doll." IF you find that you're shy about how good you look or feel with your nipple rings...plan ahead and take 'em off BEFORE they scan you. Pretty simple if you ask me. I always try to limit anything they'll complain about while we're dealing with the farce of this paranoid "scanning" bs... good luck ladies...

"sir, you're going to have to take out that metal plate holding your cranium together"
"but-but-"
"sir, TSA policy prohibits metal passing through this detector."
common sense, good judgement, and individual responsibility.... whoooosh... out the window. goodbye. welcome to the matrix.

What the hell do they do about people with metallic implants in their bodies?
Some people have metal plates in their skulls, others have pins in their joints.
How the hell is a nipple ring going to cause a terrorist incident or put the plane in danger? This is absurd and ridiculous bordering on ludicrous.

do you think that the validity of this woman's story is compromised by the fact that her lawyer is gloria allred? (allred's been instrumental in cases involving oj simpson, michael jackson, and scott peterson.)

ok, good point echoz.
i guess the woman herself would rather have turned around and taken it out than to have Joe Security lifting her shirt to make sure it's just a ring.
um, but maybe not?

to speak to stephenthomson on that post about "Joe Security Guard" being able to look with his own two eyes at a nipple ring... I would say that it would be better if they didn't even HAVE to look at all. that could get really out of hand as my previous post certainly alludes... Some guys are gonna have a real problem with that!
you honestly want some joe-security checkin your wife/gf out for nipple rings, and belly button rings, dude?!! ...jeez...you're a lot more "tolerant" than I am.

yeah, y'know I completely agree with the "whoopie do!" sentiment but technically, they probably weren't even supposed to let her go even with that belly-ring. they did *her* the favor there (even if it was to spare themselves the necessity for yet another pair of pliers! =D LOL!) who knows, we may not be getting the full story of how "studded" out this girl may actually have been! ;)
but I've heard of others complaining that their wives have been inappropriately touched...that's truly inciteful stuff imho... this girl whoever she is will live with much of her dignity intact I bet.

good point jstapf.
it's not like Joe Security Guard cant see with this own two eyes that it's just a nipple ring.

Right or wrong, still...
It said she could board with a belly ring still in...
So they were treating her wrong.
I honestly don't understand what this world is coming to. I don't know why government is worried about people wearing jewelry on an airplane. Whoopdie do!

=D hehe... what? don't even nipple rings count as "excess jewelry" when TSA "instructs boarding passengers to remove ***all*** rings, *excess jewelry,* and change from pockets"? who's fault is it really if that shite is so difficult to take off when you happen to be at (duh!) an airport and you know you're expected to...guess what...take that shite off..."ALL" of it??? hmmm...I might snicker too if it was just your belt or your shoes or yeah, even that belly ring, that was "so hard" to take off as to require a freakn pair of pliers for chrisakes... please don't pretend to be so surprised. you all act like they're taking the bottle away from the baby or something, and just not giving it back. that shouldn't really be news to anyone in this crap day of "terrrorism." every airport requires that, and flying, like it or not (I don't), people should expect it.
If you guys *really* so resent that shite, you should be **really** hating on that phantom 9/11 murderous crap job that mandated all this shite in the first place just to pull the wool over the eyes of the people I consider to be the real "Sheeple" out there (ahem...jubal! what's up with you?)
and what if they were just completely godless and irreverant secularist a$$holez with a half-a$$ dead-end job working at a bs airline company who pays their board and CEO at least 20X the amount they're actually worth, while barely allowing them a decent wage to live on. would that make it better somehow, jubal? why derrogatively single out "born again christians" as "sheep" for this crap wrap when the *political* bs started a long time ago, jubal? or should we all assume the narrow view that perhaps the faults of a few so absolutely, necessarily and completely represent the whole? you make me wonder.

...TSA spokesman Dwayne Baird said he was unaware of the incident. There is no specific TSA policy on dealing with body piercings, he said, "as long as it doesn't sound the alarms."
If an alarm does sound, "until that is resolved, we're not going to let them go through the checkpoint, no matter what they're wearing or where they're wearing it."

This is entirely getting ridiculous now. And the snickering should be hotly chastised by their superiors. This kind of treatment will only fire the flames of resentment against these types of security controls. Not to mention this is bad press for the TSA.
They should apologize immediately for the mishandling of the incident and the disrespect and callous judgment shown this woman who was clearly trying to comply with their requests.
I wonder if the persons who were snickering were Born Again Christian Sheep?
